Eh. Its the Republican's MO: No one taking you seriously (and with good reason)? Make yourself a VICTIM!!!

Dave never should have apologized, abject or otherwise. He's a comedian, not a politician.

If I were a slutty stewardess and someone said Sara Palin was trying for my look, I would be greatly insulted! I would be a very classy slutty stewardess not one who went moose hunting!

Ralph Fiennes LOVED the joke, BTW.

"Sorry" and "regretful" are synonyms, by the by. Look it up. Letterman knew he blew it factually and apologized for his mistake.

When exactly do you think I supported Palin during the elections? You're nuts if you believe that. If you had political threads about Palin I wasn't in them. If you are looking for right-wingers to have political arguments with, there aren't very many on this website. Go try to scrape one up someplace else.

I am looking at the one-joke situation devoid of politics. And not the stewardess joke about Palin, which is not my kind of humor, but not something with with a type of factual error that can be played up, mind you--played up, as a suggestion of humor at the molestation of a child.

The quality of debate here is not worth the time.

Craig, was there some recent sex scandal issue of some sort with regard to Rodriguez that spurred his name in the joke? I don't keep that close tabs on baseball. Or was Letterman just implying that he was a hunk that Bristol would want for a boyfriend?

I would think if Rodriguez just shrugged it off as a joke there's no need for an apology. If Rodriguez were also offended then it should be addressed re the factual error and implication.

The only thing I've heard Rodriguez talked about is with regards to steroids in baseball, plenty on that, even the cover of the New Yorker.

The New Yorker has delightful cartoons. I still can't believe Tina added photos. The reviews of Pauline Kael were fantastic. Tron could be said to be fantastic if you look up the definition of the word.

Rodriguez was recently linked to Madonna, and is now linked to Kate Hudson.

Is CBS paying Palin to keep this going? She is so politically tone deaf it is astonishing.

She makes my head hurt.

Personally- I hope all the comedians and everyone else just stop making any Palin comments. I don't want her to have any more ammunition to be in the public eye. She needs to be in Alaska to govern her state not going to all of these events to get media attention! I completely loathe her and I just saw the comments she made about Dave's apology. I don't think Dave owed her anything. I have a 14 year old daughter and I didn't think anything of it. It was a joke and it was very fleeting. You can't keep complaining about the media by going to the media to complain!

The whole thing is pretty boring. Better if they would turn this into a support of an organization that helps women who are victims of violence and let something positive come from it.

Meanwhile, attention is diverted to this hoo-hah when it is the economic situation that is the real distress going on.

The rise in interest rates and increasing foreclosures are devastating people. Questions about whether some States could go bankrupt and how they are cutting services. Food banks not being able to serve the increased demand. Friends in CA who are telling me just dire things of out there and can't get jobs. I have friends who got let go here. Even on the streets here, there are suddenly a lot more panhandlers and people digging in the trash for food.

I had a friend who was a stewardesses and she always used this joke:

People say stewardesses are mean, stupid and slutty. I don't know about the rest of them, but I have NEVER been mean or stupid.

Just a side note but I believe relevant to this "Outrage"... I wonder how Letterman's ratings have been stacking up to Conan's? Perhaps Letterman is egging this on a bit for ulterior reasons?

nomdeplume, you still have not answered the question as to where and when did Dave advocate raping 14 year old girls. I posted your quote yet you still keep running away from the lie you told. Face it, you lied and you are not man enough to fess up. I agree, Nom is beginning to make Roxy look like Stephen Hawking!

You still sound like a right winger and like you, I don't need to back it up.I read your posts and I then dissected them like you dissected Dave's comments on the Palin jokes. Fact is you lied and now you are becoming defensive because you know you lied and I and others have called you out on it. I could maybe ,maybe let the fact that he never apologized slip on by but YOU SAID DAVE advocated raping 14 year old girls and Sarah Palin said something similar this morning on the TODAY show. That is disgusting and I am waiting for you to post his exact quote where he said that or admit you lied. My guess is you will start talking and talking and ranting and ranting and stat giving all these internet definitions on the word apology and then tell us what Dave's body language says and then you will then go off topic rambling on about David Caradine and then somehow come back to all of us are wrong and you are right.

You sir are a first class BS Artist and I am asking you to back up your posts about Dave and his advocating rape of minors.I'm waiting.

It's so adorable, in a pathetic sort of way how you keep trying. SO what exactly is nuts? The fact that you can not prove it or the fact that he never said it and you still insist he did? According to the FOX NEWS PLAYBOOK, if you repeat a lie enough times it will eventually become true.

"When his show sponsors start getting letters that they are supporting jokes about statutory rapes of 14-year-old girls by endorsing his show, because that is what they are probably going to get, the issue may continue on so perhaps he should make his apology clearer."

I don't know how this whole thing turned into violence against women and child molestation. Lighten up- it was just a joke gone wrong. It is not a reflection of Dave Letterman! I think it would be funny if A-Rod made a comment about how offended he was that anyone would think he would pal around with a Palin girl!

It started when Nom borrowed Sarah Palin's talking point that Dave was somehow advocating the rape of her 14 year old daughter, but Nom has now escalated the one girl to girls (plural)I have been asking Nom where his info is coming from and to back up what he said or admit Dave never said it. Even in the clip Dave said he never said it, Palin did.Nom is so sloppy he just repeats what he hears or reads and it has made him look like a lying moron. Rather than admit he made a mistake and Dave never said it he has become defensive and angry.I am waiting for him to address the issue and he keeps stalling, changing the subject, or rambling on and on,avoiding the fact that he can not back up what he posts.

"When his show sponsors start getting letters that they are supporting jokes about statutory rapes of 14-year-old girls by endorsing his show, because that is what they are probably going to get, the issue may continue on so perhaps he should make his apology clearer."

I can spell it out again but I doubt you are going to get it any clearer because you do not grasp leaps in thought.

Palin supporters/religious right/whoever could pressure sponsors by sending in letters complaining the joke made light of an imagined act of statutory rape by the ball player against the 14-year-old daughter who actually was the attendee at the ball game which is how she would have got "knocked up."

That has nothing to do with the idea of Letterman himself engaging personally in any kind of rape, nor have I even alluded to that, considered it or discussed it.

You don't read, you are really boring and so is this subject.

It would be ridiculous for Palin supporters to protest the show and CBS. Dave stated what the joke was about and that's it. It was NEVER a joke about imaginary rape of a 14 year old. It's not a crime and he did not mention a daughter by name. There is no case. You can't pick apart everything a comedian says. I'm so sick and tired of Palin and her supporters blowing things out of proportion! (McCain did this during the whole campaign but didn't shut someone up when they called Hillary a bitch- he just laughed along) It's also funny that she has to pick on entertainment shows but doesn't bother to go on any real news programs unless they are on FOX. She will always be a victim in my eyes and a pathetic one at that. I can't believe there are not more Republican women stepping up to the plate because I know there are plenty of far more qualified and eloquent women out there!
