I just found out that I have to be at rehearsal from 8-11...wtf? So I'm taping it and watching it when I get back to my room, I don't care about having at 8AM class the next morning.

I'm not even sure why I started watching Lost. I rarely start watching a new show when it comes out. I usually end up catching up a few seasons later, like I did with House. For some reason though, the initial previews just grabbed me, and I was hooked instantly after the first episode.

I totally started watching Lost solely because of Dominic Monoghan. I'm in a family of huge LOTR geeks, so my mom and I were like, hey, Merry's in a new TV show! I have such distinct memories of getting a huge craving for ice cream right before it started and having to run to the store to get some. I actually missed the first five minutes or so when it first aired. But I've been there since the pilot.

I was talking to one of my students about the show and I referenced something from season 1. He said to me "I have to confess I've only been watching since season 2 and haven't seen the first year yet." Of course, he was in fourth grade when the show started, but I told him he has to go back and rent the first season! I can't imagine trying to come in in the middle at this point, though I'm sure some try...

Gah, I'm so mad that I have to leave for rehearsal in like 15 minutes. I mean, I know I'll get to watch the episode as soon as I get back after 11...but I wanna watch it now. re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

I'll be flipping between recap and Idol - the recaps don't really add anything new, and I remember enough I don't really need it...

I was.

But, who was that woman at the end? Should we know who she was?? I can't place her (if I should have).

I wasn't either. Seriously, they need to start giving answers.

That was the woman from the pawn shop that Desmond met, wasn't it?

Yes that was Fionnula Flanagan who played the woman in the pawn shop.

Okay this was a ridiculously awesome premiere.

There were so many squeal-worthy moments, the best being the return of Ana-Lucia, who was one of my favorite characters.

Things have just got even MORE complicated on the LOST Island as well.

And yes the woman was Miss Hawking from the pawn shop, who I am also assuming is Daniel Faraday's "mother in Oxford". I'd like to say for the record that Flanagan was NOT listed as a guest star in the opening credits which disorientated my whole (accurate) theory that she was Faraday's mother.

Eh, they've got two more seasons to give us answers.

Overall, I thought it was great. The only part that was underwhelming to me was the ending, because I'd heard earlier in the week that the ending was crazy...which this one wasn't. I was expecting her to pop up again.

beautiful two hours of television... watching everyone on the island being showered with flame arrows.... wow... i hope that's just a taste of some of these horrible things that will happen... and i actually LOVE it when they don't say someone's name in the credits because it doesn't give away the story... it just ruins the suspense if you see someone's name and they dont show up and then at the very there is a huge reveal.. well then you know who it's going to be... so i was fairly surprised to see the old woman who gave desmond the ring in there... oh LOST... welcome back to tv!

THose of you who didn't like it, seriously, what the hell did you expect? I thought those two hours had EVERYTHING Lost has come to mean for us -- some answers, some questions, excitement, humor, action, and tucked away clues for the die hards (he has 70 hours -- 4+8+16+42 = 70). The end WAS great -- we finally see that there's someone controlling all this beyond Ben and the mysterious Jacob. Ben is AFRAID of her -- that's something. Up until now, Ms. Hawkings had only appeared in Desmond's flash - we didn't even know if she was real. This confirms it, and that she had a hand in manipulating Desmond.

The only thing I worry about is that the time jumps on the island are going to be too convenient -- that they'll just be able to jump to wherever will be useful for them. Knowing Lost, I'm hoping that's not going to be so, but it could be.

The thing that gives me hope that it won't: in ANY other show, just before Hurley ran from Ben, we would have gotten a quick flashback of Sayid warning him to do the opposite of what Ben said. Lost trusts us to remember that and gives the audience credit for a brain.

I'll tell you this much, I will NEVER leave a dishwasher open again!

Great episode, even though I am annoyed at everyone that got off but Jack right now.

I KNEW Faraday would end up being a HUGE character this season and i am glad he is. It is too bad that Charlotte will be dying soon.

Was Neil in episodes before? I didn't remember him from before. He was a complete tool and I am glad he got shot with a flaming arrow. This season will be interesting, but I really hope it doesn't take seven or eight episodes to get them all back together. You know they will all end up going back.

People who don't like it for stupid reasons annoy. Example - my brother. he just came in and said "I don't like shows that have so many conspiracy theories. At first it was just people lost on an island. Now it is too much." So he doesn't want to watch a show that makes him actually think? He wants to just watch mindless TV...which is how too many people are now. Thinking is apparently a bad thing.

To be fair, it was never a show just about people being stuck on an island...

Neil/Frogurt was mentioned in season 1 I believe, and he was in one of the mobisodes that they released last year.

They're all on youtube if you never got to see them, they're just 2-3 minute clips of missing scenes from various times on the island.

If the whole island vanished at the end of last season, why are only the people (and their clothes) skipping through time?

I was glad that Neil/Frogurt was not another attempt by the part of the writers to work in a "this character has always been there, they just never spoke before now" person. They tried that once with Nikki and Paolo and it was horrible. The only couple it's really worked for is Rose and Bernard (whom I was so happy to see last night!)

It worked with rose cause they introduced her in the pilot and it worked with Bernard beause they introduced him through rose and because he was a taily. There was a reason he had never talked before and that's because he wan't actually there.

I'm confused - what else would you expect to travel through time other than the people? They explained that anything else on the island was either there in the time or not. As far as we've seen, the only times they jumped to a time when the survivors of the crash were there, they were no where near the camp. Had Sawyer gone back when the camp WAS there, I would guess he would have run into himself.

Edit: rewording of my theory I had on here before:

What if this whole thing with Locke being special is just a colossal mistake? What if, because John was time traveling apart from the rest of the castaways and Ethan ran into him, they think he's special, but it was nothing more than a coincidence? Two things in particular are leading me to think this: 1)the test Alpert gave young Locke showed him being frustrated because John WASN'T special - he didn't choose the compass. If "special" means Locke is independently capable of time traveling as I'm guessing Alpert suspected, he should have picked the compass. 2)We've been set up for four years now to think of Locke as a loser. Everything "great" he's done he's been a failure at, almost as though the fates are conspiring against him. Why should this be any different? He's being told he's special, he's the leader etc., but what if this just follows the pattern of Locke with his father or at the compound -- that it's all set up for disappointment and failure again? Following that logic, perhaps Farraday is right, and DESMOND is the special one. I don't know WHY it's Desmond, but if he is the one independent from the rules, maybe he's the special one? I don't know if this is a total stretch, but Locke and Desmond connect very easily in back-stories -- Locke and Sawyer connect through Locke's Dad, Sawyer connects to Jack through Christian, and Jack met Desmond "in another life" (note they made a point of showing all three of these connections in the recap).

I spend way too much time thinking about this show.
