re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

I knew as soon as the people on the boat were speaking French that one of them was going to end up being Rousseau. And I'm happy she's back, in some form. Also, very interesting that Jin is with them in the past (for now) as he has no idea what is going on with the time shifts, and speaks little English.

Do you think Ben did all of that business with Kate (hiring lawyers to request a paternity test) so that she would be willing to go back to the island? I'm confused as to what his motivations are behind that. Also, based on the preview for next week, he knows that Jin is alive.

I still want to know how Locke's "death" fits in to all of this and why that is ultimately the reason they all agree to go back. I wonder if when they bring him back, the island is able to "heal" him again and bring him back to life.

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

ANother solid episode -- not the best, for sure, but very good.
Thoughts:
--I knew Jin wasn't going to be dead so I was happy they didn't keep us waiting on that one for too long!
--I also realized as soon as Locke (or was it Sawyer?) said "Anyone speak French) that we'd be seeing young Danielle soon.
--Speaking of Danielle, why were they in the middle of the ocean if their stuff had already wrecked on the shore - or was that the stuff from their ship and their lifeboat just happened to be floating along still?
--Anyone interpret the French?
--Did Jin and Danielle have any interaction before? How is this going to change that in the future? She should recognize him now!
--LOVED the scene with Kate and Claire in the woods -- the editor needs to win an award for how expertly that was put together. I can't imagine they re-staged that given the actress who plays Claire isn't around for other stuff, so that was probably done with old footage. Now my question is, did they foresee that and shot the far away shots and those angles before, or was that just extra footage or what?
--How is Ben going to "prove" Jin is still alive?
--The fake out with Claire's mom was the one big weak spot for two reasons: 1)it seemed irrelevant ultimately - just a trick to get us, and 2)although it's in Jack's character to want to fix things for Kate, why wouldn't he just bring her and Aaron to Ben right off, especially if Ben was behind the tests the whole time which HAD to be a ploy to get Kate to go with them? One of the few times I think the writers got a little sloppy...

I had no idea she had compeltely left the cast. Was there a reason given? So does this mean there won't be anymore appearances by Claire?

I'm guessing yes, he did it to try and get her off the island. I think the idea was that she wouldn't figure out that it was him behind it all, and just feel that the island was the one place that she and Aaron might be safe from being separated.

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

From what I read, she was off the show until next year. I don't recall seeing her name in the credits either...

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

i will say that it was nice to see Claire in last night's episode... i miss her and can't wait until next year when she rejoins the show...

a possible theory that i read... do you think Sawyer and company time jumped to the future? it was suggested that the Oceanic 6 took Ajira Airways back to the island and that they were the ones shooting Sawyer and company on the boat... which by the way... sawyer's reaction to the time flash during the boat shooting was hilarious...

oh... and seeing Hurley in the orange jump suit was hilarious! he just looked funny

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

I read that idea too - that it was Jack and Co. shooting at them, but I find it hard to believe. Why would they start shooting at ANYONE? It just doesn't really make a lot of sense...

Sawyer's lines: "Thank you Lord!" and "I take that back!" were easily the best lines of the night.

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

well i think they started shooting because they stole their boat.... it would make sense...

and i think i'm liking the idea that Miles is the son of Dr. Marvin Candle... makes sense... can't wait to learn more about the dharma intiative

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

I also heard the rumor it was Jack and company, maybe thats why they hit his oar and not him.

So happy to see Jin

Also I think Ben hired the lawyer so Kate will be more willing to leave and I think he hired the hitman to drug Sayid(using the dart guns) so he would be easier to bring back to the island as well...I can't wait to see what the hell happened between Ben and Sayid

Can't wait to see Sun next week

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

Ben's going after Aaron is perfect, because if he can use him as bait. Either..."come back to the island and I'll let you keep Aaron" or actually taking Aaron to the island, because Kate will come looking for him. I think it might be the only thing that could get her to go back to the island. And Ben, being creepy and brilliant, knows this.

And I just realized last night, that in "current time" there are two Lockes----the dead one in "the real world" and the live one on the island. How is that possible??

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

Isn't the live one on the island three years ago? We assume Locke left the island at some point and came to the main land as Jeremy Bentham.

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

Another great episode.

jasonf I agree with you about the editing and I think it had to have been shots they didn't use before because as far as I know Emilie de Ravin (Claire) wasn't supposed to be in any new footage at all this season. Also, I may be confused here but wasn't Jin there with Claire and Kate?

"Did Jin and Danielle have any interaction before? How is this going to change that in the future? She should recognize him now! "

I don't know if they had any memorable moments with each other but I think that they had to have been with each other at some point. And don't forget that Danielle is dead so she won't recognize him. And even if she was alive I think it would be the same situation with Desmond and Faraday...she would have a "memory" and just like that it would have been an actual occurrence.

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

Apparently Jim and Danielle meeting will become a pivotal part of the LOST mythology or so I read.
Pretty neat episode.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

Jin was there with Claire and Kate.. but remember... he ran to get Jack so he left those two.... and when Jin got to the camp Boone was dying and there was tension between him and Sun who was acting as nurse for Jack...

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

I read a theory somewhere that the last episode is going to be a retread of the pilot seen with all new eyes - imagine if they can pull that off! Somehow, I do think looking back at the pilot once we've seen the whole series it will be VERY different!

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

OK..so if 'mainland" time is 3 years later than "island time" what does that mean if they bring dead Locke back to the island at a time when Island Locke is still alive?

#119

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

That's a very good question -- but I have a feeling somehow they're going to end up anchoring the island to a time three years in the future...

The writers took a huge risk with this time travel stuff - there's a lot to keep straight and with this vigilante a fan base, they damn well better have their i's dotted and t's crossed!
Hi, Shirley Temple Pudding.

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

At some point, someone, probably Daniel, needs to articulate clearly the "rules" of time travel as defined by the writers of this show. Is it gonna be all Back to the Future-esque, where running into your past or future self can have dire consequences? Or will it just be seen as memories?

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

Pick up the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly - the article in it is AWESOME -- spoilerish, but more just a vague mapping of where we're heading. If you want to know NOTHING, don't read it, but if you want to know how long till they get back to the island (um, duh) and how the season will unfold in general terms, definitely worth taking a look...

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

jasonf... just finished reading it! it was a nice article... i also recommend the new TV Guide issue with an interview with Daniel Dae Kim... also spoilerish! oh and they also did one with Evangeline Lilly a couple weeks back... that's a good interview as well.

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

Anyone want to speculate where Frank Lapidus is, when/if he is coming back, and how he fits in to all of this?

He had too significant a role to just disappear when they all returned to the mainland. He's gotta be involved somehow.
#125

re: 'Lost' Season 5 Excitement Thread

Adam - I think I read somewhere that actor is another show now. I don't know how that will impact Lost...

I'm GUESSING either A)Lapidus will be the one to fly them back to the island (Ben somehow has him in his employ already) or B)because he didn't spend much time there, he's not needed to return.

The twisty logic that's got my head spinning is: why does the island need Jack and Kate etc.? If "Destiny" or whatever declared they're going to be needed on the island to do something, then how can they escape it? Is this all the producers' statement on free will versus destiny? Here's where I get confused in the logic - if so, Locke has always stood for destiny -- so then if the destiny of the 815ers is to be on the island, how in the WORLD are they going to explain LOCKE leaving without betraying the core idea of Locke=destiny vs. Jack=free will. The only explanation I can come up with is that Locke is being duped AGAIN - and his "destiny" is to never be part of the island. Then again, if he needs to go back as well -- see why my head hurts?
