Interesting.
I wonder if he would agree.
It would really undermine McCain's Iraq position and argument to have him on the ticket. If he stands with Obama on the next steps for Iraq, McCain would be attacking the military when attacking Obama.

I wonder what his positions are on the issues. The war, a womans right to choose, gay rights. Just getting a military person does not cut it.

If he looking for a military man, why not go with Wesley Clark? He could not do better....(unless of course, he picked Hillary)

Just as long as it isn't Sam Nunn.

Marc - I agree that military isn't enough. I would assume his positions on other issues would be an important part of the vetting process.
Cal - I agree, I want no part of Sam Nunn either. How is that 'change'?

On a related note-why did Obama change his name from Barry Soleto to Barack Hussein Obama?

Well, it might get me to 'change' my vote! (nah, not even that would send me to gramps)

Not "Soleto"--it was "Soetoro."
He used it from 1967 to 1971, when he lived in Jakarta with his mother and her second husband. It was his last name.

yes, I know it was his last name. It was spelled soleto on google, sorry about that.
I was wondering why he changed it to the name Barack Hussein Obama.

He didn't. Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. is his real name. Soetoro was his stepfather's surname.

Clark is such a Hillary supporter, it might be seen as caving to Hillary...

He won't be the first president to change his name; similarly, Leslie King Jr. was adopted by his mother's second husband so he changed his name to Gerald Ford Jr. He stayed with that name the rest of his life.

Thanks for the info, folks. I'm just a little confused as we never know the real story.

Didn't Harry Truman add the "S" to his name just for fun? I recall reading that it doesn't stand for anything; he just thought it "sounded" good.

Actually, miss p, his parents gave him the sole S as a middle name to appease his paternal/maternal grandfathers whose names each started with an S.

He scares me.
also yes he has a strong military background, but what other qualifications does he have for VP? Give him a cabinet position if anything.

That's what vetting is for. At first blush, it looks like he's strictly a military choice, but this may also be why he is being considered:

Remember he said he was going to fill some of the positions in his Cabinet with Republicans.

if he wants to win the military vote and the women vote then he clearly needs to name the highest ranking female in the military, whoever that is.

Did you see "WASHINGTON - Senate Republicans blocked a proposal Tuesday to tax the windfall profits of the largest oil companies, despite pleas by Democratic leaders to use the measure to address America's anger over high gasoline prices."

Does Barry really need a VP named Jim Jones?
