It's really too bad that she is resorting to sharing this to get back into the news. Her career is a trainwreck. It's sad she needs to do this to get some attention. Lead with your talent celebrities, not your cruddy lives. I'm sorry for what happened to her but I am sick of some "stars" only getting press for their crappy lives.

Plus, that headline is AWFUL: she did not sleep with her father, she was a victim of sexual abuse. There is a HUGE difference. I hate this is sensationalized. I hope she gets some peace of mind and healing by sharing this and isn't doing this to get attention.

I'm a cynic and I'll admit it. But, why else would you reveal this on national TV if your prime motivation wasn't to sell books?

IF it's true then I certainly feel sorry for her, but is this something you'd want to share with the world? A therapist maybe...but come on...on Oprah?

I don't think anyone is saying she is making it up, but curious about the timing of the disclosure. Let's face it, no one is interested in Mackenzie Phillips. She had a bit part, which she lost, on a hit TV show 30 years ago. She has done little noteworthy in her career since.

Being a survivor of sexual abuse is a very personal journey and she can choose to heal in whatever way she likes (including mass public disclosure), but in this game of celebrity it's sad that many people choose to use such incidents to get the press involved. I just feel bad for her that this is what she has to lead with.

She was a second fiddle to the incredible Bonnie Franklin and the adorable Val Bertinelli who emerged as a standout star. Mackenzie wasn't even present when she was on the set or filming. She pissed that opportunity away. The show didn't skip a beat after she was fired.

She *was* very good in AMERICAN GRAFITTI. BettyBoy true she pissed her ONE DAY AT A TIME opportunity away due to her drug use I'm not arguing that but for you to toss her off as being a bit player in that show is extremely ignorant on your part when the fact is she wasn't regardless of how you personally feel about her.

Marquise, I hear your point, but honestly, I just saw the E! True Hollywood Story about the show and it discussed how she began her serious drug use only 1.5 years into the show, and she was in and out, and the story lines shifted to focus on Bertinelli out of necessity. In hindsight, the producers felt Mackenzie really never shined in the show and was never shown to her full potential. I'm just saying that just because she was a part of hit sit-com, doesn't necessarily mean she contributed equally or ever really hit her stride. I feel bad for her in hindsight, since now I know she was struggling with a trauma history that caused her to abuse substances. As a fan of the show, Julie never really stood out.

Yes I wonder what the rest of the family will say? I'm sure they will all be making statements. I'm sure they will love the media attention. I'm sure the girls of Wilson Phillips will get some soundbytes and I'm sure media whore Carnie will be giving her 10 cents, regardless if anyone cares. She shows up to the opening of an envelope.
