Well, Addy, that's an issue all artists have to face. And I recall that the correct answer when that was debated regarding the RNC attending Wonderful Town and other Bway shows and similar issues was to perform for those who pay for their tickets.
You can still speak out against the RNC and you don't have to pose for picture with the RNC, but if they bought a ticket, you should do your job.
I think that can be applied here.
That's the problem I have with these things. She's not promoting it as a political tour. It's no secret what her political leanings are, but it's being promoted as an artistic event. Of her music.
It's a safe bet that some of the people who bought tickets (at a fairly hefty price) don't share her political views.
Why should they be made to feel uncomfortable?
General question.
Well, she has every right to express her political views in her work. And her audiences know that she does that whether it's about sex or gender or religion or politics.
And all art is political is a common belief. When has rock n roll not been?
Have people been upset that she expressed a political view in her shows? Yes. But it's HER show.
And why is it perfectly ok for a film or musical or play or book or TV show to include political references, but not a rock concert?
Sincerely, did you feel this way during Vietnam where great artists wrote songs about the war?
Also, the sentiment that was expressed in the song in the same as on the album. She just stated it a little more expilcitly in this version, so it's doubtful that there were too many unsuspecting people in the crowd.
And Jerby, by now I think everyone knows where M stands on politics, religion, and the like. If they're still buying tickets, they're aware of what they're getting.

I saw the title of the thread and thought ...literally. Just Madonna on top of George Bush. Literally.

I doubt there's that many Republicans who go to Coachella, and if they are, they know what they're in for from most of the artists, not just Madge.
I personally think the original lyric is funnier.
she's more likely to attack another bush. Oops, did I say that?
Coachella is at the other end of my valley.....there were many here who felt she ruined the Coachella Music festival by just being there......I wanted to go see Depeche Mode on Saturday, but while I'll $100 for Broadway, I won't for that......
Jerby, you said
"Have people been upset that she expressed a political view in her shows? Yes. But it's HER show."
Last I looked it was the Coachella Music Festival, and not her show.
No, when an act is onstage, it's their show. If they are given restrictions by the organization presenting them, they can hash it out then. Otherwise, an artist has the right to say whatever they want to during their slot.
When I did my show at Danny's, I told them what was in the show (sexual topics and politics). They agreed to that and therefore, they would have no right to pitch a fit.
My publicity materials were also as clear. Any audience member that came to my show would have to expect that I was going to be giving an adult show with controversial material. A couple walked out because of a nasty song. Too bad.
My next show might be clean. Who knows?
And when you book Madonna, you know what you are getting.

"Lolz! She told people to suck his dick! LOLZ!"
Artists of every persuasion have been criticised and/or persecuted for their political views since the dawn of time.
What's new here?
Well, she has always been a VERY classy lady. This is further proof.
I could not call Madonna "classy"
Audrey Hepburn was classy, Grace Kelly was classy......while a fantastic performer, and shrewd businesswoman.........I could never, EVER...call her classy.....
she was born in Bay City, MI......too bad she didn't cross that bridge into Sarnia and become Canadian.......
She's always been a scrappy little fighter. Classy, maybe not.
Classy doesn't work for everyone.
Well she DOES have a lot of class. All of it low. haha. Her large family consists of all different levels of class, though.
Is her father's other family middle class?
it's upper-lower-middle.
