Madonna videos are playing all day today on the Fuse channel.
It's funny Matt, the 2 songs you have picked out are 2 of the ones the critics seem to love, i love both of them. Only one song on the album makes me yawn and it's Superstar, dont like it at all. Turn up the Radio i think is awesome, great simple club song.
For me though its Gang Bang, I'm Addicted (the production on this is insane), I'm a Sinner, Falling Free, Girl Gone Wild, I F****d Up and the incredible Love Spent (Can not stop listening to that one). I think Beautiful Killer and Best Friend on the bonus disc are great as well. B.Day song makes me giggle.
Gang Bang was inspired by Tarantino.
Gang Bang was inspired by Tarantino.
That makes sense. The only thing that could make me hate the song even more.
The standouts for me are Masterpiece and Falling Free. I think I also liked Love Spent, but I have to go back and see if that's the one I'm thinking of. I didn't hate Turn Up the Radio, I just hate that it wasn't more fully developed. But maybe it's just because I heard such superior versions of similar songs and it unfairly brought them to mind. But that was stuff I was actually thinking when hearing the song for the first time.
Music critics praise a lot of stuff over many different genres I can't stand, so I really don't pay attention to them. But it's funny...I was just reading an article in Huffington Post about how critics are divided on this album.
Madonna, 'MDNA' Reviews: Critics And Fans React On Twitter
Here is the LA Times official review.
Album review: On 'MDNA,' Madonna is no longer pushing pop forward
Yeah we were just talking about this actually.
Places like The Gaurdian and the Independent etc gave the album rave reviews a few weeks ago, and no it got re reviewed for its release day they have changed their tune (not hated it just given it mixed), very strange. Still i think i have read about 6 reviews that were mixed (1 negative review), the rest have all been very positive.
For me Masterpiece is lovely as is Falling Free and i guess those songs will appeal to fans of much more traditional songs, the rest of the album for me though is the standout, i am such a geek when it comes to Dance/Trance/Club music though, i adore it, so this album is perfect for me

That's the phenomenon I talked about where I said the enthusiasm was reminding me of the Stones fans and reviewers trying to convince themselves that "Goats Head Soup" was as good as "Exile on Main Street." Sometimes, after the adrenaline rush of getting your hands on a brand new release dies down, you can actually assess what you're hearing with a clearer head.
I also hear there's a recent William Orbit interview somewhere saying he wished Madonna had had more time to work on the album. Kind of echoes my remark that it sounds like those tracks have first take vocals on them.
But what do I know? I know nothing about this sort of thing and I am just a hatter. When I can find hats big enough for my giant head and brain.

That's something I noticed on first listen. The album feels rushed and unfinished. Nothing seemed developed by Madonna at all. Like she walked into the studio, recorded a couple of takes, then handed it over to a mixing team with a 48-hour deadline and picked it up when they were done. Either she's lost her ear or she's lost her edge or both. We'll probably see some fabulous remixes surface once they actually realize what they should have done, but I actually think Confessions was better than this.
oh Namo, it took you a few hours today to get on this thread, it is release day, i thought you would have waited up all night to get on here lol
Its had like 6 mixed reviews and stacks of positive, the publications that have published 2 differing reviews are from 2 separate reviewers. I dont think anyone is trying to convince themselves of anything, well maybe you luv.
As for the album feeling rushed, not a bloody chance. If anything this is some of the best production i have heard on a dance album, it's produced with laser like precision. Also i have not heard Orbit saying that about this album, though he did say it many moons back on Ray of Light because i can remember it got me worried.

Who can tell WHAT day is release day anymore. It feels like it's been released two times already, between the sneak peeks and the leaks (my new band name, now that I think of it). Some people will buy it this week, and next week they won't. There has been nothing that hasn't been predictable about all of this so far.
But the critics are raving! Well, most of them. At first. And that's undeniable.
I agree Namo, it does feel like its had a few releases, but hey at least its out now.
But does MDNA redefine music as we know it? I'm confused.
Why, was it supposed to?
It does redefine the spelling of a class A drug though lol
It's an interesting new vanity take as Madonna tries to redefine herself as a drug. And like ecstasy, the album may provide a rush of blissful excitement followed by hours of pure hell and paranoid regret until you stabilize back to reality. You may decide it was totally worth the fun and do it again or you may decide that you tried it once and that was enough. Obviously, not everyone is going to have the same experience despite what critics say or how many units sell.
And also like ecstasy, MDNA was better in the 80s when it was pure. Back when it was called "wigging" instead of "rolling".

It's a very up to the minute drug reference, no matter what you say Mister Matt. All the hip club kids at Limelight enjoy consuming ecstasy before taking to the floor to engage in the dubstepping.
MDNA stole the dubstepping idea from that documentary I was in about the drag queens of West Houston entitled, "Memorial-ize: The Gessner Girls".
Why Am I Reminded of This Thread?
lol Namo i dont think you have been to a club since the 80s luv

My reference to Limelight and the MDMA was more a joke about how au courant Madonna's musical and titular references of today are.
As you know because I have mentioned it, I did work in a half dozen dance clubs through the last half of 2011 and I can tell you, the kids are not nor will they be listening to Madonna.
Im sure shes crushed that kids in 'dance clubs' are not listening to her,
Namo, are there any tracks on the new album you really like? (Not asking sarcastically, just curious).

I am listening to it on Spotify, right now, with my top of the line Bose headphones, so the sound quality is very good. At least she'll get a penny or whatever Spotify pays people for my listen, and I am not thieving no leak.
So far, I can tell you without a doubt, if an instrumental version of "Bang Bang" gets released, I would buy it. The vocals, replete with the scary baby voice she used in "Truth or Dare" when talking about her brother's emotional problems not only make my skin crawl, but they do indeed sound as if she made them up in one take at the microphone and refused to do a polish.
Now back to my listening party. In the meantime, here's a nice three and a half star review from Rolling Stone. But I'll tell ya what the kidz will not give a ****e about: hearing Madonna's divorce album.

I've listened to Love Spent maybe 50 times already. As of right now it's easily my favorite track.
