re: Man kills himself at Ground Zero due to Bush's reelection

Plum, why are you asking? I was fortunate to have a candidate who was against the war, favored cutting tax loopholes for the rich, was pro-choice and (generally) for gay rights. If either of the "types" of people you hypothetically identified as candidates were running, I would be forced to vote third party. You aren't exactly making a point about the erroneous nature of the idea that "religious freaks" are taking over the country by coming up with a completely hypothetical scenario.

I say, a statement is a statement. If this is the statement the man chose to make, that's his business. It's unfortunate for his friends and family, no doubt, but in a way it's almost refreshing to see someone believe in something so strongly.

As opposed to the rest of this country which seems content to sit and complain about how their "lives will be OVER" if so and so happens, then immediately file it away and go to Starbucks, assuming someone else will make the sacrifices for their cause. Well that's what this guy did and, regardless of whether it changes anything, it's more bad karma and bad press for that dipsh*t in the White House.

*grins* I think I answered you when I said I would be forced to vote third party. But of course if this thread is going to veer into a discussion of my politics, then I think it's best that we stop here or take it to PM.

Eh. Rodney's not involved, and so far nothing's heating up or personal, aside from some passion on both sides.

Leave 'em be. Let's see this hashed out. Again, TGIS and Rodney's out. Or something.

"What's wrong with having a political argument on the OT board?"

There is nothing wrong with a political argument on the OT board. Indeed, there are probably at least a dozen available to read right now. But... my politics probably aren't that different from the majority of people posting on BroadwayWorld, so it really won't be of interest to you or anyone else to hear about them.

There goes Plum's strategy. re: Man kills himself at Ground Zero due to Bush's reelection

If plum has a point, you owe it to us to let her prove it.

bythesword, then I would clearly have to spend more than an hour determining who the best candidate would be. This would include estimating how likely either candidate was to stop being pro-choice, anti-gay or pro-war. Either way, I'm still uncertain of how my voting in an imaginary election has anything to do with the man's suicide and the influence of religion on contemporary U.S. politics.

Gee, thanks. Just because I haven't engaged in any political debate before here doesn't mean I *can't*.

re: Man kills himself at Ground Zero due to Bush's reelection

It's been more than 15 minutes since I asked and nobody with the proper ideological position will give me a straight answer. So when I say the right people aren't signed in, I'm just speaking for what I see.

It's just a simple theoretical question! Oy. G'night, folks.
