doodle, it's been a long time, but I remember when I first moved to NYC and would commute on the super-packed Lexington line, squashed in like sardines with no room to even breathe. It was not uncommon for CREEPY men to take advantage of the fact that you had no place to move to grind themselves into you. I learned not to change into sneakers so I could jam the heel of my shoe directly into their foot when it happened. It was horrible.
As you said, no shortage of aholes on the subway lines.
