Manspreading

As a guy, I think the reason men are called out on this more is because there are a lot of guys who act as though having male genitals means they can't keep their legs together. It's not any less annoying when women take up too much space (though I honestly rarely see that on the train) but guys try to justify it in a way that makes it more irritating. Personally, I'm fine with the signs on the train- I just wish people actually followed them.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

I just don't want the guy in the first post to stop. Ever.

"Well, I'm still dissenting. 90% of men I see on the train are spreading. Even on full trains. It seems to me that's the way men sit, period. And the percentage of women who put their bags next to them is far from 90% More like about 15%. And how about those men who spread AND put their bags on the seat. I see plenty of that.
Loving this debate!Manspreading"

I do think sitting with your legs spread out is rude, especially on a crowded bus where there's no questioning how rude it is. However, there has been some documentation that says that men sit like this naturally (and no, not because of their genitals.) And yes, I'm using a reddit thread as my source link because I'm lazy. https://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/1mnqrk/why_men_sit_with_their_legs_apart_spoilers_its/

See all those facts may be accurate, but doesn't mean you have to do it. I sit with my legs one over the other almost exclusively. If not that, my legs are ahead of me. There is no reasoning that you have to make a obtuse angle with your dick.

I find thoughtlessness doesn't follow gender lines. I think we just tend to notice more the stuff that bugs us most.

Of course I've seen guys manspreading, but if I take the seat next to them, they move their legs as needed.

I find women by far to be more guilty of putting their bags on the seat next to them. Also they tend to cross their legs, which means everyone has to dodge them getting on and off the train, and if I'm standing in front of them, I have to figure out how to avoid their jutting foot.

that reminds me - how about those folks who extend their legs so that their foot is on the pole in the middle of the car? Like a bridge. I just crash right into it.

I hate the people who use the poles in the aisle as backrests.

And then you grab on over their heard and they still don't move.

I always make sure my bag continuously knocks against them when they do that.

....but the world goes 'round

lol, I put my hand right where it's comfortable for me, whether it disturbs their private back rest or not. they hate that!

Had a very uncomfortable commute to work this morning as the woman sitting beside me was quite wide, possessed massive hips and sat with her massive trunk like legs conveniently (for her) spread open. She must have needed some "airing out" around her nether regions.

I bet those "trunk " legs wouldnt even close if she tried.

How dare you. In the 21st century, that statement is sexist, fat-phobic, misogynistic and all those other words that the PC police like to use 24/7.

LOL, how was my post remotely racist? I made no mention of race in my original post and all I stated was the truth: She was a woman, and she was heavy set and she was taking up a massive amount of space.

If the Internet has taught you anything, it should be that no matter what you say nowadays, it's racist in some way.

Duh.

I'm a man and I spread every chance I get and will not stop anytime soon. Why? Because I'm not going to sit with my nuts in a knot out of someone else's notion of decorum. It's torture enough having to keep the manly bits in a harness for 8+ hours on the job. I missed my 7th-inning stretch earlier today so I'm starting to squirm in my office chair right now. I also have long legs which I need to extend under the seat in front of me while seated on DC's metrorail or in most airplanes.

Much respect to Harry Wright who first reported on the 7th-inning stretch in baseball. Take a look at how he took his notes after the jump.

Why is only lately that men need to spread?

I think it's only in the age of social media that it's being discussed (and photographed).

Javero, it's not about decorum; it's about courtesy. You can do whatever you want with your nuts, but if there's a seat next to you and I want it, I'm taking it.

And that goes for women and their bags, too.
