Marc Shaiman's "Prop 8: The Musical"

Who says you're undermining the cause?
You're just trying way too damn hard to be "individual." Freaking out about it, actually.

Posted: 12/4/08 at 10:43amWe're in the middle of seeing a production of THE KENTUCKY CYCLE, and last night one of the characters described war as 'like tying the tails of two cats together and hanging them over a clothesline, letting them rip each other to shreds'. For some reason, I thought of this thread.

So whenever there's a cause, or something that might benefit from us rallying together, we run off in all directions and criticize each other, rather than seeing we're really fighting different aspects of the same battle.
Okay, so you didn't use the word undermine, but you can see how I thought that was implicit.
And I'm not trying to be individual at all. I just stated my opinion and the vultures swooped in. I've been called a whiner, told to get the sand out of my vagina (which surprisingly, none of the people who always bitch about gay misogyny had anything to say about), and was admonished by people who seem to think they have the final say on what is to be liked and not liked.
So, yeah. Sorry for "freaking out." Next time I'll just pusssy [sic] and agree with everyone just for the sake of agreeing.

Well, no, Phyllis, you wouldn't be YOU if you didn't state your own opinion! Loudly!
But to whine when others get all in your face and tell you they disagree (in ruder and cruder terms than that) is surprising for someone who's been on BWW as long as you have. When you state your opinion, particularly a "different" one, be ready for the swarms to descend. It's in your BWW Rule Book, page 3, paragraph 2.
But to clutch one's pearls (another gay misogynistic euphemism) so dramatically here is a bit into the Code Orange on the meltdown scale.
I agree the sandy vagina comment was a bit much, though. At least it yielded a pearl!
Anyway, I get your point, and in the grander scheme of things, yes, equal rights IS the real issue. I just don't think we need to bring every "real issue" to every humorous gay video clip. It is what it is, and I enjoyed it quite a lot.

Well, I guess it's all about things are perceived, because I don't see anything I've written that should have been interpreted as LOUDLY.
To be fair, I was the first person to commment, and I kind of assumed some more peoople would agree with me.
I'm surprised that I'm the one being seen as the pearl clutcher here, but c'est la vie.
You can keep trying to paint me as having a meltdown all you want, but I think that's pretty idiotic.

I don't think Phyllis is freaking out about people disagreeing with him, he is just pointing out the ridiculous fact that people are flipping out over him disliking the video. What's the matter with not thinking it's a funny video?
I'm not even talking about the cause (which as I said before, I obviously--and actively-- support). I just didn't think the writing was funny when it was clearly intended to be (and it worked for some people, most apparently). It's an f-ing skit, what's with all the insults and BS?

Doesn't ANYONE else here think that "Steam Heat" is a stupid song?
Or am I alone on this?

Here is a short interview with Shaiman in the Times about the video. And I thought it was ok but nothing to scream about. I actually expected something more or different. JMO

I guess I'm not authorized anymore either.
I HATE STEAM HEAT!!!
I mean the choreography is okay (if you like that sort of thing...although it's nowhere near as good as "Single Ladies"), but I just don't think it's that funny.
I mean "The radiators hissin' but still I need your kissin'"...
What does THAT have to do with labor organizing?
