I think that was to you. I don't think my right to have sex with men was ever in question.
If Joe takes it away again, just say he's a sock puppet!

Posted: 12/4/08 at 6:05pmI hate to say it, but I also hate "Steam Heat." But unfortunately, I'm not gay, so what's my penalty?

That's why I use "Impaler" instead.

Since he knows the ropes and shortcuts, kudos to him for putting this together with the speed of Mercury. However I don't know if people will pack the theater to see it. Tain't my cup of tea.
And while we're on the subject of pop culture musicals, obviously any subject matter seems to be set to music and dancing. :) I await Global Warming, the Musical. Al Gore Sings!!! :)

Well, since we now are well aware of how various gay people are responding to the video, I thought you might be intrigued to how one person on the other side of the issue is responding to it. I was treated with this Facebook status just moments ago:
"__________ just learned from Prop 8 The Musical that disapproving of someone’s behavior is hateful. He can never disapprove of, or disagree with, anything ever again.
…Unless, of course, _________ becomes a Cultural Marxist. Then, he will have the confidence to know that (by virtue of being left-wing) his reasoning is infallible, his objectivity is inherent, and his opinion on any subject is authoritative. Consequently, it will be not only his right, but his duty, to constantly disapprove of others and demonize those with whom he disagrees."
Trust me a dialogue has ensued....
As for my oh so important opinion of the video, I thought it was great. And it's certainly one valid argument that came to my mind--a state enduring terrible economic times just cut off an excellent source of money. Just a thought.

Posted: 12/4/08 at 10:51pmAre people REALLY viewing the whole economic angle as a viable proposition for argument? I honestly took it as a satirical bite into that which THEY find important.

Posted: 12/4/08 at 10:52pmQ - I looked at it the same way. I definitely wasn't offended by it, but the "economic benefits" were in fact being played up in the media.

Exactly.
But I don't see how including it as one in a list of reasons why it's stupid to ban gay marriage is such a bad thing.
I think people should be allowed to smoke pot just because it's their business. But I think the fact that doing so would create jobs and tax revenue, etc., too ain't so bad.

I mean, I've gotten a bit of a kick out of the cat-scratching in this thread, but it really didn't occur to me that someone might ACTUALLY think that Shaiman & Company were propositioning holding that up as a viable argument. It seems so obvious a satire to me.
For the sake of the discussion, however, I must admit I really didn't laugh much during it - although, that might have more to do with my 'over it' attitude with the subject matter than the video at hand.
I DID chuckle at the split-second interplay over the lesbian comment with Neil and Allison, though

I thought they were being satirical with something true.

Well often the choir needs preachin' to. But I wouldn't be shocked if it gets even a small number of people on the fence to do some thinking.
It certainly has started some conversations--my Facebook interaction alone is one such. And starting conversations is always good.

Unless you're in the black-out maze at a bathhouse - then, not so much.
So I've heard.

i think that satire is such a powerful political tool, because the ones near the edge of consiousness can see themselves reflected in the mirror of your artistry

He mentions that in his credit:
"Conceived and Written (six weeks later than he shoulda) by-Marc Shaiman"
I actually totally get why people didn't get SUPER active until after Prop 8 passed. (It's a disservice to say nobody was active before but now we see SUPER active was necessary.) I think it's because we tend to go into denial when the idea of people making harmful decisions that hurt other people's lives is presented to us.
"They'd never vote for that. It's CALIFORNIA!"
