I searched and couldn't find a thread about the movie, so...
I just watched this movie, and I was really impressed. I thought it was so well done. There were quite a few twister thrown in, too. And there was something about it, that right from the beginning, I was drawn in. Scarlett was great, but I think Jonathan Rhys Meyers was overlooked. He gave a great performance.
Comments? Thoughts?
I struggled through the first 40 minutes of the film and then had to stop. I just didn't find it that interesting. It also didn't help that Scarlett was a horrible actress. She had absolutely no expression in her face or voice. When the mother-in-law was talking to her about her lack of an acting career she held the same horrible expression for the whole scene.

Ha. It took me a while to warm up to Scarlett, as well. But towards the middle and end, I started to appreciate her.
I loved this movie, and thought Scarlett deserved an Oscar nomination.

Woody's most entertaining film since EVERYONE SAYS I LOVE YOU.
Loved this movie and thought it was one of Allen's best films ever. Scarlett was brilliant and Jonathan was fine but I thought that Emily Mortimer gave the best performance in the film. It was still a four-star film and I loved it very very much.
I liekd this movie. Wasn't crazy about it, but it was interesting. While John Rhys-Meyers, started off quite bland, he picked up once his character's true colors showed. I did not like Johansson, who I usually think is brilliant.

When it came out, Match Point was compared repeatedly to A Place in the Sun, which happens to be playing at 6:00 p.m. EST today on TCM. Watch it -- it's a much better film.
it's a much better film.
Yes, it is. Montgomery Clift and Shelley Winters are fantastic.
Loved Match Point. Thought it was Allen's best in a long time, especially the screenplay. Enjoyed every minute of it although I didn't think any of the actors deserved nominations.

While I think Scarlett was great, now that I think about it, I wonder if it was more of the character that the Academy loved. Don't get me wrong, she did a good job, but I think the screenplay played a part in the nomination.
If one doesn't think Scarlett is a good actress from any of her other films, will this one change ones mind.
Honest question.

Hm, I thought she was nominated? I know she was nominated for something. Whatever it was, my opinions still stand.

I actually thought she was a better actress before I saw Match Point. The film changed my mind in the opposite direction.
