How do you think growing up there shaped who you are today?
Honestly, I don't think growing up in Kansas had much of an influence on me at all; I think more of it had to do with my home life. My parents are very devout Christians, but they aren't the biggoted fire-and-brimstone type. My mom has voted democrat since Jimmy Carter and my dad recently switched party alligence for the first time in his life. He's almost a bigger liberal than me now!
My entire mom's side of the family is very cultured and very well read, and I was always taught to think for myself and stand up for what I felt was right. Although my parents don't condone homosexuality due to their interpretation of biblical teachings, I can't imagine either of them persecuting someone for their sexual preference. They believe in civil liberties and LOVE above all else, even love for those you don't agree with. Whenever I go off on a tagent against the right, my mom is always quick to reign me in, lest I become as biggoted and hypocritical as they.
Do my parents drive me crazy? Yes. Do I think they are far too strict? Yes. Am I afraid to completely confide in them? Yes. Did my mom once call me, "spiritually wilted?" Sadly, yes she did.
But I still love them and am thankful that they are as open minded as they are. Even if all my friends think they're nazis because I have to be home by midnight.

YAY KITZ, CONGRATS on your day!
My questions:
1. What past female historical figure (before 1900) would you want to interview, and why?
2. Kansas or Kansas State?
3. Who would you like to see run, and win the 2006 Presidential election, and why?
4. Best Foods (may be Hellman's where you are) or Miracle Whip?

Congrats Kitz!
My questions:
If you were a pair of shoes, what shoes would you be and why?
If you could have anyone over for dinner, who would it be and what would you serve them?

1. What past female historical figure (before 1900) would you want to interview, and why?
Jane Austen. She was such an increadible writer, and the little bit I've read about her for biographical information in essays has intruiged me. Emily Dickinson is another woman I've studied in the past that I'd love to know personally. What an inspiration!
2. Kansas or Kansas State?
Rock, chalk, Jayhawk bitches!!!
3. Who would you like to see run, and win the 2006 Presidential election, and why?
Sad to say, I don't keep up on politics as much as I probably should. I have a great deal of respect for Barak Obama, but don't feel he's ready to run for the presidency. I love Hilary Rodham Clinton, but honestly I think we need someone who is more balanced. We'll have had 8 years of the extreme right; we'll need a moderate if this country has any chance of repairing the damage done by George W. Bush. Isn't it sad that 9/11 brought the country together, only to make us more divided than ever in the end?
4. Best Foods (may be Hellman's where you are) or Miracle Whip?
Probably Light Miracle Whip, but I'm not really a fan of mayonnaise. Although I was once informed that it is "white people food" when I was a lifeguard.
If you were a pair of shoes, what shoes would you be and why?
The beautiful silver Manolos that were stolen from Carrie Bradshaw at her friend's party. They were beautiful, elegant, and in the end stood for a Woman's Right to Shoes!
If you could have anyone over for dinner, who would it be and what would you serve them?
Alan Cumming and I would serve him a little Kitzy on Rye

Things are going great, Kitzy! Loving your answers.
Sorry about the tiara, Boobs. I took it off because it kept falling over one eye and the cat whacked it around the desk a few times.
I just realized - I forgot to thank MAMIE for her kind words yesterday! So thank you for the good wishes, Mamie! It was a fun day! Sorry I was so remiss!!!

It's very silly. My family views K-State as the college where all the hicks go. Cultured people go to KU.
And DAMN, have they had fine basketball players in the past.
It was a day of mourning in the Kitzy household when Roy Williams left us. My mother was quite sad. It didn't help that my cousins are UNC fans and sent her pictures of them wearing "Got Roy?" tshirts.

Did you lower the flags to half mast when he brough UNC the championship that eluded him at KU?

Posted: 3/23/06 at 12:23pmMy mom loves Roy so much, I think she was happy that he finally got a championship.

Judy would be proud.

Well Kitz...I guess I have to admit that being from NC...I am a UNC fan...I also love Roy a lot :) My parents and sister are UNC grads. I wish KU had beaten Syracuse for the title the other year so he could have at least given them a championship before he left.
Also, my sister's husband is from Kansas and is a huge Jayhawks fan -- so you can imagine what things were like in their household at that time!
