'The King And I' was Yul Brynner and Virginia McKenna. I just remember being in awe of the whole thing. I had to keep pinching myself. I was thinking, 'I'm seeing this beautiful show in the PALLADIUM'. Believe me, as a kid it's something I could only have dreamed of. It's one of those special moments I'll never forget.
Top five theatre performances, Cookie -
Patti in 'Sunset' as I mentioned before
Kevin Spacey 'The Iceman Cometh'
Cate Blanchett 'Plenty'
Victoria Clark 'Piazza'
and most recently Iain Glenn in 'The Crucible'
I'm sure if I thought long and hard I'd come up with another dozen or so.
Sorry I'm a bit late on the uptake--it's been the day from HELL!
Bobby, darling, you were as wonderful as I was hoping. I now love you even more.
Patti, I can't wait to read your answers as soon as I get home. The Pivot questions will be waiting for you then as well
Patti, did you see Happy End at Bridewell Theatre in 1995 per chance?

Sadly I've never seen anything at the Bridwell, Miss Pennywise. I heard good things about that particular production. Is it one you saw yourself?
Gotta run, but another huzzah for pattifan! Leaving him with an image...
Oh, yes, I did, and I loved it. So many companies just do Weill such an injustice. This production was outstanding. I have not been to London since my son was born, but we used to go every year. (A dear friend of mine was living there so we used seeing her as an excuse to go often!)
Once my son is a little older, we will venture forth again. But for now, I must live vicariously through you.
I actually saw one of the all-time WORST musicals once when I was in London: Napoleon. Did you happen to mistakenly wander into the Strand (I think it was) when Napoleon was there?
It was SO awful that we couldn't leave at intermission. I should have known something was amiss when I got to the theatre and thought the performance had been cancelled because there was practically NO ONE there but us! I had never seen such a poor showing at the theatre. Then again, I had never seen such a poor show at any theatre!
Hope I'm not offending you on your special day. I mean, you might have liked it. (There are drug-induced states that could render the show appealing, I suppose.)

Hehe - absolutely no offense taken, MP. I didn't see 'Napoleon' but remember it well being on at The Strand. There was a glut of productions in the space of a few years; there was a real rush over here for musical theatre during the 'big' musical period. It was as if there was a rush to get anything onstage that writers could set music to. 'Napoleon' a case in point.
Some time ago when I had a number of friends living in London, I'd head off there frequently and see just about everything that opened. However, ticket prices increased and the cost of getting there, too, so now I'm a bit more selective about what I see. Okay, I can still get it wrong - I HATED 'Billy Elliott' (I know I'm in a very small minority there as everyone I speak to loves this show) - but I usually see the stuff I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy.

Pattifan, your answers are wonderful and I'm so enjoying getting to know you. I know completely how you feel about books. I've a stack, too, that I'm trying to get to. Perhaps if I spent less time on the board...?
Cheers Pattifan! Congrats! I'd have chimed in sooner but was away.
Here's your VERY on St. Edwards Crown!!
Now fly over here for your very own candlelight supper!
Congrats! Hope you're enjoying your reign!!

Pattifan, congratulations on your special day! What beautiful pictures you posted - stunning!
Do you have a favorite playwright? Are you a Dr. Who fan? If so, which Doctor?
And do you have a favorite star - astronomical, I mean?
I will begin this next comment by stating for the record that I am French. (I mean, of French descent. I was born and raised in the good ol' US of A.) My husband is also French. We have family in France. We love the country and the culture.
Now, I have to tell you that the French have TERRIBLE taste in musicals! So I was NOT surprised to see that everyone at The Strand that night was French! (All 30 of them.)
Patti, I am so disappointed you missed it. We could have had a laughfest and a secret clique for the rest of our lives (or at least for as long as the BWW Board exists...which is questionable, don't you think?)
In the spirit of all that is pompus and overblown, I bring you a questionare which has been answered by many a celebrity here at the Actor's Studio. Created by Bernard Pivot, they are probably the most important questions ever posed by humanity.
1. What is your favorite word?
2. What is your least favorite word?
3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
4. What turns you off?
5. What is your favorite curse word?
6. What sound or noise do you love?
7. What sound or noise do you hate?
8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
9. What profession would you not like to do?
10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
Oh, oh, I also forgot to mention that the French line from which I descend is the Bonaparte! (I am NOT kidding about this.) And even I couldn't enjoy that debacle.
But enough about me. This is YOUR day! Tell me, Pattifan, what do you think about all the interesting things I have told you about myself?
Miss P, you are a trip!
Congrats Pattifan!
And Bobby, I'm sorry I missed your weekend, but I got stranded in San Juan last night, a likely excuse I know.
Before the day is over let me congratulate you for being chosen BWW CotD. It seems like you are admired my many here at BWW and very worthy of this honor. I have enjoyed reading your responses to your questions and would love to visit England some day. I will soon be seeing the object of your avatar as I have tickets to see Sweeney Todd in NY next week. Hope you had a great day as MBCotD.
A final huzzah to pattifan before a new day dawns and the title is relinquished! Hope you enjoyed your day, matey!
Sharing a favorite poem with pattifan before bed.
The Flowers
All the names I know from nurse:
Gardener's garters, Shepherd's purse,
Bachelor's buttons, Lady's smock,
And the Lady Hollyhock.
Fairy places, fairy things,
Fairy woods where the wild bee wings,
Tiny trees for tiny dames--
These must all be fairy names!
Tiny woods below whose boughs
Shady fairies weave a house;
Tiny tree-tops, rose or thyme,
Where the braver fairies climb!
Fair are grown-up people's trees,
But the fairest woods are these;
Where, if I were not so tall,
I should live for good and all.
My darling! I have been gone ALL day, just returned home now. I will have to go back and read your answers.
But congratulations. SO sorry I missed your day, but I send you much much love!!

Addy, I love that poem! I haven't heard it before - who wrote it?
Robert Louis Stevenson.
From "A Child's Garden of Verses"
One of my favorite books when I was little. And it still is...
And a garden to go with that verse, for our Englishman...
Oh my - I'm ashamed of myself for not knowing that!
Well - now you do.
You can google it for some of the other poems. So delightful.
(Just like the celebrity of the day!)
