FidoRock, we were separated at birth!! I used to act out my favorite programs, too! (Topic for another thread?) Remember when they cancelled DS? I couldn't believe they would do - I watched that afternoon anyway, in case it was all a horrible hoax. Then, at the appointed, magic DS start time - Password came on! I think I shrieked.
Bluemoon, I was intrigued to read on the Laissez les bons temps rouler thread that you are French Canadian. How does your cultural heritage influence your life and character?
Moony, my sister emailed this to me yesterday. I was thinking about it again today, and thought that you would enjoy it as well. So, I'm sharing it with you here. Because I think you are a beautiful woman.
"One Flaw In Women"
Women have strengths that amaze men.
They bear hardships and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness, love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up to injustice.
They don't take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without so their family can have.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding.
Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They grieve at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning.
They bring joy, hope and love.
They have compassion and ideas.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Women have vital things to say and everything to give.
However, if there is one flaw in women, it is that they forget their worth.
...so I'm glad that we have this opportunity today to celebrate you, Moony. Because you are so deserving.

so...what do they do for music and theater productions? do the schools do those together or are all the shows the kind that feature mostly women, and the chorus an all women's ensemble?
Ah, Wendy that's a loaded question. Once upon a time the two schools shared casts and facilities. Sadly, no more. The man who directed the boy's school was my best friend and I served on his production staff and he on ours. He has moved on to college level productions and his replacement is a pill. A diva of the first order. So this week we are having auditions for our spring musical and they have auditions for their's. Their director has made calls to our students promising them leads if they try out (we don't make that promise) and she has told the boys that if they tryout here, she will never cast them in anything again. It has turned nasty and the Principals are meeting tomorrow. I thought "raiding teams" was only done in sports! There you have it - the drama of drama.

God, Addy that's beautiful. Thank you. It suits you to a 'T'.

Moony - I think it suits a few WOMEN here - and you're one of the best.
That's too bad! Isn't it crazy when egos get in the way? A local theater here started to give awards for the local high school theater productions. I'm glad that someone is noticing the great work these kids do, but hate the competitive aspect of it. I went to the awards ceremony last year, mostly because a bunch of my voice students and their school were up for many awards, and it was sad to see that although the students weren't competitive, their parents seemed to be very unsupportive of any school execpt for theirs!
So..are you the director for your school's drama productions?

Not directing this year. We have a large Performing Arts department - 7 members. The school has really dedicated itself to the PA - a brand new state of the art (for now) theater, great staff and for the next two years - AN UNLIMITED PRODUCTION BUDGET. We have 4 people taking turns directing our shows this year. The department chair and I are producing.
How does your cultural heritage influence your life and character?
When my dad died I felt like i lost an important link to my heritage. Mom's family is also French Canadian, but has been in the states for over 100 years, so they aren't real'froggy'. I kept my maiden name because, although it's hard to spell and near impossible to to pronounce (unless you're from Canada), it's uniquely French Canadian. I did it as an homage to my dad's family. I've gone to some family reunions and I am the proud owner of a 3 volume family history. (my sister calls the books "The Book Of Ugly People I Am Related To") I love zydeco music which is very closely related to the folk music of the french provinces. Ironically, I am the only person in my family who doesn't look French Canadian. The milkman must have been Anglo. Even my daughter looks like she's right of the street in Quebec.
An adult beveridge to start you off complete with a straw.. Remember what I taught you, use the straw to drink it down far enough that it's easy to manage. Then ditch the straw and drink right out of the bottle..
Congrats, Bluemoon! Hope your day's going well, and Cam doesn't get you too drunk!

Thanks, Tiff. Drinking with Cammy is an experience. I would never try to keep up. On the other hand, her techniques are worth noting! Thanks, Cam!

Sum! How are you? Thanks for stopping in.
Moonie,
You're always making people on the Board cry. The last really good cry I had was thanks to you. (I mean that as a compliment.)
I, too, am going to see Stephen Schwartz on May 1 and was there last year! I was the woman who told Stephen Schwartz my parents "FORCED" me against my will to see Pippin, do you remember? Then I asked him two absurd questions about Pippin lyrics.
But enough about me...when do you want to have dinner with me?
I am truly impressed by how calm and elegant you respond even under pressure.
My question is this: Why do you think people who live in Maryland and people who live in Virgina can't stand each other so much? (I know that "we" don't, but there is really a weird rivalry thing going on between these two states, you know?)

Penny- Are you kidding me? That was YOU??? I remember those questions so well - I was thinking about the one regarding the flea just last night (I was on painkillers following a root canal, so my thoughts were a bit scattered and wild). OMG!! I've already seen you! My friend Gary (the director I referenced in Wendy's question) was with me in the front row and we were sitting next to wickedrentq. Gary and I will both be there on May 1. It was my Christmas gift to him.
"My question is this: Why do you think people who live in Maryland and people who live in Virgina can't stand each other so much? (I know that "we" don't, but there is really a weird rivalry thing going on between these two states, you know?)"
Because the Virginians are so damn stupid and they're too stupid to know that they're stupid.
Really, it's a bit of 'southern culture' vs 'northern culture' with Maryland preferring to mentally attch itself to the mid-atlantic region and Ole Virginie clinging to her southern brethen (though not that much in NOVA). Every once in a while the Post and Washingtonian Magazine will stir the pot by running articles comparing and contrasting the two. It's a funny rivalry, but, yeah, they're stupid.
Are you tellin' me the civil war is still on? Dang nab it! And nobody invited me!
...thus speaketh the Virginian

Y'all didn't know? That's because yer stup....er...stupendous.
LOL about Md vs. VA!!!
I realized after I "revealed" myself to you that you might have thought, at the time, "Jesus H. Christ, where did SHE come from? Will someone shut her up!!!!"
The truth is that the week before, Michael Kerker had "challenged" me to come up with some good questions, so I thought about it and thought about it and decided to come up with something ridiculous!
I am honored that you remembered my question!
Another question: Did you go to any all-girls' schools?
yeah,...right,....sure.
.......huh?
Broadway Legend Joined: 12/28/04
No, I was embarrassed by my friend Gary's question - he got all flustered and stumbled and stammered like a little kid. Your questions were funny. How do you know Kerker?
And, no, I went to a huge coed public school. There were 780 kids in my graduating class. I had a ball in high school.
Mamie: yup.

Someone raised in Virginia here, but I don't claim it as home.
Maybe that's why I could have answered my own question already
Congrats Moony!
I’m sorry I’m so late to the party. I actually had to earn my pay today, but I see you’ve had plenty of company.
I also noticed that you even got a visit from the dearly departed, and yet, she still hasn’t left me a forwarding address or even a “Dear Shameless” letter. Oh, well, at least I know where I stand.
So, how’s it going? Are you tired yet?
Broadway Legend Joined: 12/28/04
Shameless, my sweet valentine! Welcome! Yes, she raised herself out of the grave, then went back in. Kind of like the groundhog, you know?
Tired? You bet, but terribly flattered as well. I've tried hard to keep up while teaching, giving out detentions and putting together a 30 page mission statement document. My boss says we're near the end of the document and breaking out a bottle of wine in 10 minutes. My answers could be really interesting later tonight. Stay tuned.......
Ok, Moon, I went back and skimmed and I don’t think anyone asked you any of these. But, if I’m wrong, or if you just don’t like any of them, feel free to skip.
What has given you the most (non-sexual and non-criminal) pleasure in the last year?
If you could be anyone you wanted to be today, who would you be, and what would you do?
If someone gave you a million dollars, how would you spend it?
If your house were on fire, what would you grab on the way out?
If we asked an important person in your life to describe you, what would he or she say? How accurate would it be?
What’s something that you’ve never done, but have always wanted to try?

I'm having a little scotch, so the questions could get a little more interesting, as well
