Brdlwyr...
And just think how busy Mister Wilson's team has been. :o)
Besides, with the book and film rights you'll be receiving for all this--you'll be able to keep the A/C running in all your wife's cars.

I'm wondering what kind of hug Mister Wilson will give me? Thank goodness that barricade won't be a problem

Beacon, my love - did you miss my question, or are you passing it by?

DG--Omigosh, I just found it.
Yes, I served in the California Santa Rosa Mission (northern end of the state. The boundaries at that time were from the middle of the Golden Gate bridge to the Oregon border (there is a Roseville mission now so that took part of the mission area... Eureka and Crescent city areas.)
I served in Napa twice, Santa Rosa, Novato (Marin County!!! $$$$$$) and a tiny little seaside village named Gualala (south of Mendecino). I served for 18 months (standard for girls. Guys serve for two years...they go out younger than girls and I think that extra six months is usually a turning point in their maturity. Young men typically begin their missions at 19, young women begin at 21. And retired couples serve, too.)
I met some of the sweetest, nicest folks ever. And from all sorts of backgrounds and faiths. A real melting pot. And the scenery was so picturesque and, in the winter, as green as the area where I was raised in upstate NY. And I got to hold TWO Academy Awards for Special Effects (one of the local members is married to a guy who was one of the chief folks at ILM.)
Highway 1---I got sick everytime we took that drive down to a weekly meeting in Santa Rosa. My companion (missionary partner) loved to drive so she'd be at the wheel and I'd look out at the sheer drop to the ocean. The hairpin turns did us both in and as soon as we got to the Church building we'd go into the bathroom and throw up. Our mission president's wife was there a few times and she worried about us so much. :o)
And, I gained so much personal strength in my faith as I shared it with others. It is a wonderful experience and I always recommend it highly to young men and women in the Church.
Sorry I didn't see this qustion sooner.

Beacon - how lovely! I spent Thanksgiving up there this year again, and actually saw a little more of the area. I stayed a couple of days in Ferndale, and also went up to Eureka and all through the forests.
It's so nice to hear you talk about a positive experience. The sterotypical response shown in movies and such is people slamming the door in other people's faces.
Despite the attitude I've shown here at times, I have NEVER been anything but polite to those who are spending their time doing that. However, something you told us once did change my response in one important way. Before, I had always been polite, but made it clear that I really didn't want to spend my time hearing what they had to say. Now, through your influence, I ask them if they would like something to drink, and at least invite them into the courtyard to 'sit a spell'. Even if we don't talk about their faith, we can at least connect as human beings honoring each other's presense on the planet.
I thank you for that gift.

Thank YOU for being so kind to folks who stop by your home. You are right--a little kindness can mean so much.
And, I'm a firm believer in what goes around comes around. A postive ripple is a good thing to start.
And, Undi, sadly you are right. Kindness and courtesy seem to be missing from interactions these days. Isn't it wonderful when someone rises above the usual. :o)

Kel Rel: Is there any role that you did NOT like Mr. Wilson in?
Well, I like all that I've seen (videotape and feature films) but my least favorite role for him would be Colonel Travis in the Alamo--just because I don't think he was able to shine his brightest. He was incredibly good but it felt like he was being stymied a lot and some of the direction was very awkward.
