I fear at least a couple of of my five favorite people is on many lists -- i.e. Frank Rich. I'll get back to those.
But if I may step outside the strict pollitical arena, I'll mention someone unlikely to pop up here. Someone brilliantly satirized (albeit, to my thinking, affectionately, too) by Paul Rudnik.
Marrianne Williamson. When I lived in LA, I went to hear her speak with regularly, used to go hear her at Town Hall, and still think she's the real deal, spiritually and otherwise. She's been an object of ridicule by Christian fundamentalists, loathed for injecting herself in public discourse as a New Age priestess. And not always popular among alternatie lifestyle gurus, because she doesn't adhere to New Age "party" line on myriad subjects. But if you read her books, or listen to her, you hear pragmatism, a truth-seeking, thoughtful philosophy really built on what the world is supposed to be about in all religions (the Golden Rule.) And she gave the best post 9/11 talks in NY that I heard. And I heard a lot. I'm no fan of religions, but after 20 years, still sold on Williamson.
I warned you of a suprising choice.
Auggie is one of the most intelligent, kindest and open minded people on this board. I won't bother asking questions because mine always seem to be ignored (thanks, Namo) but I would just like to chime in and say congratulations and well deserved.

Auggie - it's no surprise to me that you chose based on your own convictions and thoughtful consideration.
And I happen to be a fan of hers, as well.
Congratulations on your day!
Auggie;
How long did you live in Los Angeles? Ad what brought you here?
I also want to say that I agree with Sueleen. Bravo.

Sueleen, I couldn't answer those kind of questions without seriously incriminating myself.
Auggie, I remember being startled when Al Franken released his Stuart Smalley book of daily affirmations, "I'm Good Enough, I'm Smart Enough, etc." and there it was on the cover: "With a Foreward by Marianne Williamson."
I remember thinking, wow. Isn't she serious about this stuff, isn't Stuart not? But it was cool to read her intro. It was a great lesson in the intertwined worlds of affectionate parody and the real world.

Auggie, you're awesome. I first got to know you on political threads, but now I rush to read your opinions no matter what they're on. You're a class act. :) Congratulations.
I went back and forth between NY and LA for about two years, and finally moved there for a single, tumultuous year (a little less, to be honest) in 89-90. Not an actor, by the way. Lived in (gasp) Sherman Oaks, on Dickens Street--anyone know it?--in an excrutiatingly plain and impersonal apt building that later was destroyed by the earthquake. Used to go to this awful gyn in the Galleria where we did aerobics on carpet-covered cement. I still have ugly feet from pounding that sucker.
Sueleen, you had me at Betty Hutton.
Plum, speaking of kindness, you corrected something I wrote -- hell, you fact-checked me up the a--s -- about a year ago, in a PM, not on the board. A PM! Talk about class. That's a generosity of spirit we could all learn from. There's enough public humiliation here, no?

Auggie - which actor would you like to play you in a movie of your life, and what would be the title of the movie?
Stanley Tucci!
The title? I'll work on it...
Auggie;
The first condo I bought was on Dickens. I hated it. And do you know the galleria was demolished and they built a new center with 18 movie theaters, Cheesecake factory, Tower Records.. etc.. and they made it out doors?
Auggie... my previous questions went unnoticed - I'm not bitter - but I'll ask another.
If you could have anyone over for dinner, who would it be and what would you serve them?
Dame: I somehow lived near Pat Boone, if you can believe it, and got stopped by the Sherman Oaks cops one night for walking by it. Very friendly, but oy. Of course, I loved Pat singing Willing and Eager with Ann-Margaret in STATE FAIR. Had he appeared, not the cops, I woulda said so.
DD;
Que fue lo que occurio en Seattle?
Daydreamer, forgive me. I'll dig 'em up. I still have dial-up, and my laptop gets slow!
Who would I have to dinner? In the spirit of the board, if I were in a theater state o'mind, probably Hal Prince. But only if he'd get drunk and talk to me. I don't like him much in interviews. I used to worship him, even when he continued to put a bridge in the middle of every show he directed.

Auggie - Dial up????? It is 2006 for god's sake.
Stanley Tucci - fine actor.
What would you have for dinner with Mr. Prince?
What serves as comfort food for you?
If I were a tree Daydreamer? I dunno, one big enough for a tire swing. With Stanley Tucci in it, swinging out over the muddy water, til he drops, and goes skinny dipping, all by his lonesome, and then suddenly realizes there's somebody on the other bank, watching him through binoculars--
Sorry.

I'm regretting the dry Hal Prince answer, but what the hey.
Comfort food? Spaghetti al'amatriciana. Pancetta (or jus plain ol bacon), tomatoes, onion, a little garlic, red pepper flakes, fresh basil, and lots of fresh parm cheese.
Iflitfloat once made it, after I tempted her. (Remember?)
Auggie...
What made you live in Sherman Oaks out of all places?
Here goes Auggie...seems I ask every CotD this question ...If you counld interview 1 person (dead or alive), who would it be and what questions would you want to ask them?
Thanks auggie. I love those simple questions - the answers say so much about you!
