They all show up eventually, Namo...
And I just took a peek at the list on the inital post in this thread. It's a remarkable eclectic list...I can't imagine that everyone won't get a day in the spotlight. It really hasn't been predictable at all. I love that.
Me too, Dottie-and Namo made a good point, I'm always curious about all the posters. Who are they really? I think every one should get a turn. I hope this thread never dies.
Last cheers and hurrahs for Namo!
Congrats to Auggie!
Best wishes for a great day to Auggie! Your posts are always thoughtful, intelligent, and positive. You're self-assured without being cocky - you make sure your points get across without ever descending into negativity, no matter what is being thrown at you.
I always look forward to reading any posts with your name on them.
Add my name to that list, Dottie!
Auggie - I'm really looking forward to getting to know you. I hope you're here and will be able (and willing) to answer some questions posed by other posters. (We only want to know you better!) Here's mine:
1. What brought you to BWW and (more importantly) what made you stay?
2. If you could go back in time, what era would you go back to? What play/musical would you want to be in the house seats for?
3. If heaven exists, what do you want it to be like when you get there?
I have a special place in my heart for Auggie (also one of the first posters I ever met). It's interesting to meet someone who made a difference in your life without either of you even knowing it until a much later date.
Atta girl!
CONGRATULATIONS AUGGIE! Auggie, you are one of the most thoughtful and articulate members on the board. Your presence is cherished here. Much love, much much love!
Oh God, I thought I could just wear the crown and the cape, like Kim Novak as NeewallaH in PICNIC, and maybe nuzzle Bert Parks. Every title has such responsibility.
I must read the questions and say something fast. What's startling is that I barely remember friction with Namo over BBM (and friction's what it's all about, Baby.) I was one of the wet-cheeked throngs, who barely responded.
Back in a few, with an answer or two.
I haven't had the opportunity to speak to Auggie before, but I've heard nothing but good things about him. Congrats dear, I'm looking forward to learning more about you.

Excellent - he's here to play!
My first question:
If you were put in charge of the gay rights movement, what would your focus be, and how would you go about achieving your goals?
Congratulations, Auggie!
I now find this thread the most fascinating on the board. I can't wait to learn more about you, Auggie. Grace us with your presence soon!

I came to this board to counter my recently acquired agoraphobia, after moving out of Manhattan and feeling unable to find a people fix. I was first taken with both Iflitfloat, Sueleen, and the sceptor passer, Namo. Back then -- October 2003 -- I was barely cyber-literate.
In hindsight, I thought the board a kinder, gentler place. But I'm sure rose color glasses are part of the drag you wear when you first arrive here. I must say, everyone was friendly. I must also say, I fell in love with the anonymity. So many theater fans, so much interesting discourse, no last names.
A twelve step meeting about the theater, but with crosstalk.
Other questions: Mamie, I'd go back to the 50s. But only as portrayed in FAR FROM HEAVEN and THE HOURS (Julianne Moore is the patron Saint of the 50s).
My favorite theater song used to be the one I've never bought on an album: "Once Upon a Time" from ALL AMERICAN. I used to avoid buying it, so that I could stumble into a piano bar, hear it, and be stabbed through the heart. It's value was in it not being available to me. I'm not sure anymore. I have a real love for Charles Strouse, and weep at the overture to RAGS.
I'd never be put in charge of gay rights...
But I once worked on a project wherein I learned a great deal about teen suicide, how 7 out of 10 (back then--early 90s) were about orientation. So I suppose I'd put the focus on reaching those kids, sooner rather than later, making those 7 lives more critical than marriage or just about anything.
My feeling? We don't (just) need celebrity gay role models, we need doctors, lawyers, Indian Chiefs--waiters, hairdressers, construction workers, real-life Village People-- who'll be availale in the lives of kids who need the ulimate mentoring. The problem is, to many in our society, mentoring means sticking your hands in the pants of those same teens. So I believe we need an arena for teens to be helped by sucessful gay members of any community, without the taint of perceived sexual "recruitment."
Can gay revolution in our culture be modelled on the civil rights or feminist movements? It seems impossible, since to be black or a woman is apparent. But anyone here with kids knows: the worst thing you can call another kid these days is "gay." It's the one pejorative that is still widely allowed. So in an ideal world, gay teens should be allowed to self-identify. I think, they need gay adults to be part of their world, initially as protectors, if need be, then talk-tos, informal therapist. In a perfect world, gay teachers, for instance, once self-identified, could be a helluva influence. I hope that happens more in my lifetime.

That's why I think Coming-Out day should be more important than Pride activities.
What's your favorite era of movies, and what are some of your favorite films from that era?

If you're gonna be droppin' the science like, "A twelve step meeting about the theater, but with crosstalk...." this is going to be a very good day, indeed.

"Being a good sport can be very draining."
I do hope you're regaining your strength, Namo - you were a very good sport.
And I LOVE the 'but with crosstalk' phrase!
Well, DG, I was a huuuuge INVADERS fan, and a few years ago, with a few glasse of vino, met Roy Thinnes. I gushed about how his show used to keep me up, while I "waited for PEYTON PLACE to start..." I don't think it charmed him.
Heaven? Not like THE LOVELY BONES. More like the Willoughby episode of TWILIGHT ZONE.

Something I asked Namo last night:
What five people with public voices do you think are worth listening to, and why?
Auggie... very interested to find out more about you.
SO... if you were a tree, what tree would you be and why?
Auggie;
Hope you are having a wonderful day.
CONGRATS AUGGIE !!! Enjoy wearing the tiara today...it's YOUR day !!!
Another RAGS fan!
Teresa Stratas! Larry Kert! Lonny Price! Terry Mann! Dick Latessa! Marcia Lewis!
And Judy Kuhn singing a line that will haunt me till I die:
"Just one more...JEW!
In her...raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaags!"
Enjoy your day, Auggie!
LOVED RAGS! I went to the closing performance. Lonny price made a curtain speach saying the show would be back.
