When will Sir Penguin be joining us?
Patrick Wilson Fans --New "UnOfficial Fan Site". Come check us out!
I think his ego swelled and he floated away.. Or perhaps he's working his tail feathers off in class as usual..
I think my first item of business in my reign of terror is to eliminate a sizable subset of the population, then as you quake in awe at my fearsome ferociousness I shall have my choice of rewards ...
That is enough of that.
beacon- You ask a simple question. I am joining the game right now.
Cookie- Your question is very difficult to answer.
I love so much food it is hard to say.
I will go with Oven Baked "Fried" Chicken (I love the flavor of fried Chicken, but not the grease.) Along with Mac and Cheese (Assuming for the sake of the question my Lactose intolerance is gone) and some nice fresh steamed broccoli.

My standard question has become:
What five people with public voices do you think are worth listening to, and why?
If you didn't have to be in class, where would you rather be right this moment?
And what is your dream vacation?
**flips hair and saunters**
PSH! I dont fear you! Silly boy..
congrats penguin!
What person or event would you consider to be the biggest influence on your life so far? How have they changed you "for good"?
Ick...bad Wicked reference. I appologize in advance.
Your Highness...what inspires you?
Why is it that when Boobs refers to someone as "Your Highness" it comes off as inherently dirty?
Because it's Boobs and he is inherently dirty..
Pengers, where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Oh, that's rich coming from you Cam. And if he hangs around you much longer the answer to that question you just asked him will be prison.
DG- I will get back to your question. It is one I want to answer seriously.
Cookie- It is 12:24 on a Wednesday, so I would have to say downtown either with ticket in hand, or about to get a ticket to a show. (Unless this is alternate reality situation, in which case I would want to be backstage preparing to perform in Albee, Miller, or Shakespeare. )
My dream vacation is a totally emersed "world tour" none of this fast tour stopping. I would like to go rafting through the Himalayas, ending up to with intensive study and meditationwith the Dalai Lama. I would then travel to China and Japan and study the history and culture for awhile. Whipping from there after a few months or years I would need to see the fabulous natural wonders of New Zealand and Australia, while catching a Royal National Syphony. Then it is up through Africa, hopefully catching as many of the wonders that I can, engaging the locals and being enchanted by storytelling arts older than all of Western Culture. Then it is on to Europe to take the "Grand Tour" architecture of the ages, the arts, and the old blood soaked ground, I ache to see it.
The Middle East, South America, and other ports both known and un I will save for a future trip.
Of course for a realistic vactaion I will pick two: One is to go to London, catch some shows at the West End and marvel at the cultural history there. The other is for the outdoorsperson in me, I would LOVE to go to Whistler, I am a snowboarding fiend.

Smart - by your answers so far, it seems like the penguins really do have a bit in common. Referencing the Dalai Lama goes a LONG way in my book
DG- Opus goes a long way in mine.
JAC- Thanks, Georgia boys all the way.
Erika- Thanks, and I have a check for you.
Everyone, please help Erika in her raffle it is a great cause.
Here are a few answers, I am still working on at least one more.
DG:What five people with public voices do you think are worth listening to, and why?
1. Tenzin Gyatso, His Holiness the fourteenth Dalai Lama
His passion for peace and understanding, his quest for knowledge, and the genuine sense of love that surrounds him. In addition to his tireless advocacy and the manner with which he deals with the extreme hardship of his people.
2. Jimmy Carter
For one, I am a fellow Georgia boy, and there is a great deal of honor in the fact that he is from my home area. Also, he is another tireless advocate in the face of criticism, a person who tries to honor peace and communication. Also, a critical study of his Presidency will reveal that he did what so few “politicians” can, he took the bullets and went down in flames, so the right action could be taken, even then.
3. Maya Angelou
Poet, activist, and strong proponent for the right. A very powerful, persuasive and magnetic woman.
4. Cornel West
Dr. West is brash, witty and profoundly intelligent. His work is the undercurrent behind a new theological and liberative approach to Religion and public life. He is also a bit of a rake and a kingpin, and a fun and generous person to meet and communicate with.
5. John Shelby Spong
Bishop Spong is the driving voice behind the move to take religion away from the fundamentalists, by reengaging it inside ourselves. He is also a “thinking” non-mtellectual. He, unlike all the people I study, moves his works for and by the pulse of the people, and I am forever indebted to him for that.
Boobs:Your Highness...what inspires you?
Passion. For the people in my life, for the things I do, heck, even for my considerable vices. I must have passion, I thrive on it and it sustains me. My most vital passion is the one for knowledge, of any thing and everything. Followed closely by a few “vice” passions.
I also find Passion in others is what inspires me the most, those who care deeply and take the time to understand why and what they are caring about.
Kitz:Why is it that when Boobs refers to someone as "Your Highness" it comes off as inherently dirty?
Because it is a very, very naughty phrase, which makes it all the more relevant and revealing.
Cam: Pengers, where do you see yourself in 5 years?
This is a hard one, I have no idea where I see myself tomorrow or where I was yesterday, so five years is a bit difficult.
I really hope I can do something that matters. Many, many things are very important to me, but the most important is engaging people and learning with them. Hopefully, helping them through the issues they have, and finding a balance for myself. I hope that in 5 years, I have been doing this on a somewhat larger scale and will continue to do this. I am an activist, but an internal one, an introspective, introverted type, my goal is to understand as much as I can, and help people see themselves as active and vital. I am a writer, so hopefully will have a book or something similar by then. I am in seminar, so I guess I will be a preacher or teacher by then, but I refuse to preach and think teaching is often misused.
I may also be in jail, or at least a political refugee somewhere, I have been close several times before and I am nothing if not stubborn.
Shbrt- The hobbit is happy, but freaked by the attention.
Kitz: What person or event would you consider to be the biggest influence on your life so far? How have they changed you "for good"?
I find this type of question among the hardest to answer, there are many people who have influenced me, both for good and ill. I will try to answer, but not get too personal.
Including each of the figures I mentioned above. On the personal front: Sara has been really important to ground me, my sister’s capacity to love and give astounds me and my mother inspired me with her courage in the face of pain and unbearable odds. On the artistic side, Keats, Dylan and Sondheim have contributed great beauty and power to my life, and I do not believe that those contributions can be pushed aside or lessened.
All of my influences have converged to make me who I am, and without them I would be a different and far lesser person, so I guess in the end, I can not isolate, I can only honor.
I think that catches me up on all the questions- If I missed one let me know.

I adore Smartpenguin78. Like all of my favorite posters he possesses intelligence and a crack sense of humor, and doesn't take it all so seriously. Even in moments of disagreement, he always has my respect. You're an excellent choice for CotD, mate.
I'm assuming the presence of Fiona Apple in this thread means you're a fan of hers? If so, what's your favorite Fiona song?
Thank you Kringas, I appreciate those comments very much.
For Fiona- Yes I am a big fan, but in order to narrow down the songs, if that is even possible, I will need more time.

I understand. I'm a fan, too, and I don't think I could pick just one. If it's too difficult, perhaps just your favorite album.
I'll ask another Fiona related question as well. Did you follow the Extraordinary Machine drama? If so, were you able to hear both versions of the album? If you did, which do you prefer?
Joy it is penguin day!!! Here have a cookie (or would you rather a herring?)
