Ya'll don't have to worry about McCain't picking up Libby Dole for several reasons which are enumerated below:
1. they have a combined age of 500
2. she's been caught with her hands in the AIG cookie jar; follow the link below
3. she's a member of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee and has urged for more bank regulation in the past, although my NCers claim she was just offering lip service.
4. she on the verge of be ousted in the upcoming election by challenger & NC state senator Kay Hagan. Hagan leads Dole by 5% pts in the major polls.
Libby's got millions in AIG stock and came out in support of bailing the muthasuckas out

Posted: 9/26/08 at 2:07pmI don't think Palin will drop out or McCain will pull her- not this close to the election. They will keep hiding her out and grilling her like all pageant queens do before they compete. I said this on the Couric thread- the interview was pathetic! She never gives any specifics to her answers. She always says- the people of America... our great nation... always tries to turn her answers into anti-Obama rants (which tries to hide the fact that she didn't answer the question).. and then always says, well John McCain says this... To say that living near Alaska and Canada gives her credentials is just pathetic. I just wish Couric would have pressed her a little harder! Her excuse for not traveling abroad just proves that she never thought she would be in this position. CNN looked into the fact that only 28.8% of Americans have passports- so what! I have never traveled abroad because I am a horrific (REALLY HORRIFIC) flyer. That's why I would never run for a higher office. This whole choice has just ticked me off because to me- her experiences have been minimum at best and that does not make a good VP candidate (when there are so many other people far more qualified). I even saw someone say that Clinton came from one of the smallest states in the country -yeah where he was a 2-timer, Rhodes Scholar from Yale- who did not get to that school because he was an elitist! Just sayin'

Posted: 9/26/08 at 2:11pmMom, I agree that there is little chance of Palin not being on the ticket. I just hope that Biden can go after without smirking and also watch what he says. He can be such a blow hard!
#59re: More incoherent babble from Sarah Palin
Posted: 9/26/08 at 2:34pmYeah- I hope someone is really working with Biden on his attitude and how he will come across. I don't want him to compliment her so much. With his experience and law degree- he should be able to blow Palin out of the water. She's using terms like good guys and bad guys. He needs to make sure he doesn't come across elitist, smirky, or condescending and he also needs to talk in a way that "small town America" can understand him! (He has to study the Gore debates to see what went wrong there)(of course, I thought Palin came across as very condescending in the Couric interview- especially when she said..it certainly does before she answered the question about her foreign policy.) I also don't think the Jesus (and I'm Jewish) photo or talk of plane crashes is appropriate here- sorry.

Posted: 9/26/08 at 2:48pmSupportivemom, I saw an interview with Biden a few weeks ago regarding his upcoming debate. He came off really smarmy (if that's even a word). He kept saying, "I've debated a lot of complimentary adjective, complimentary adjective, intelligent women...." He kept repeating it over and over and over again.

Posted: 9/26/08 at 3:12pmYeah dottie- that's what I mean. He needs to stop making it seem like Palin is a formidable candidate because obviously, she is not. (B. Clinton keeps complimenting her too much as well- enough with the nicities) He needs to come across less wussy! To me, he should debate her just like he would a man! If there's no crying in baseball- then there's no crying in the White House! Oh, and I don't know if smarmy is a word but I get what you mean!

wow. what an escape ploy.
It's ok to admit you have no idea what she was talking about. It doesn't make you any less of a republican.

Posted: 9/26/08 at 3:54pmmade perfect sense to me. a little scattered at the end. but she was saying that this whole thing makes people sick. the bailout has to be about more than helping wall street. there's a lot of issues that have to be addressed within this area and this bailout is tied to issues far beyond simple economics.

Posted: 9/26/08 at 3:57pmJust saw a Republican analyst on CNN that said it was unfair what they are doing to Sarah Palin. Then she brought up how they don't do that when Biden says stupid things. Okay, here's the difference- BIDEN IS ACTUALLY GOING OUT AND MAKING SPEECHES OF HIS OWN AND GIVING INTERVIEWS! I don't think Katie was unfair at all- in fact, she wasn't tough enough!

i generally acknowledge that vast majority of elected officials are as dumb as mud fences. there's the rare exception, but they prove the rule. politicians don't get elected for their smarts, they get elected on their personalities. who they are, not what they know.
she's going to be veep. the only other option for mac was pawlenty and two white guys was just not a winning ticket against the bamster & some anonymous plagiarist to be named later who's pretty sure he's smarter than you are, sweetie.
mac and sarah will face a congress dangerously close to being able to overrule them at any time. the country elects mac and efectively punts to '12 when hillary wins her rightful throne in a slugfest over a seasoned sarah.

And I just saw that damned Nora O'Donnell on MSNBC interviewing a Politico roboto who basically said Palin's numbers are down partisan lines, and that Republicans felt her performance was just fine. That's simply a lie -- look at the Kathleen Parker piece (separate thread) -- many people are in public and in private voicing more than a little concern.
But the idea that she shouldn't have travelled abroad because only 28.8 million Americans have passport (80 million people, by the way -- not the population of, say...Alaska) is preposterous. If she were running for Mayor, or even Governor, fine, let her stay. But this indicative of a Bush level of incuriosity about the outside world, a rabid kind of "elite" provincialism -- the new spin: "I'm actually untained by world politics, so I'm more 'normal' and better than you."
It's a new low, the idea that the brightest and best shouldn't apply to the highest office -- that instead we need small town unaccomplished mediocrities because somehow, devoid of an Ivy League education, such a person is more 'real.' This new dumbing down is many things, but it's first and foremost unAmerican. Who the hell founded this country?

Granted, she did this when she was younger and had no idea she would be in the position today- BUT- do you know how many countries would find this display extremely offensive? It's so sexist (and disrespectful in some countries) to parade around like that!
