re: More incoherent babble from Sarah Palin

It would have to be a VERY conservative woman with impeccable credentials: Is Liddy Dole right-wing enough?

I'm almost afraid to say it again: Kay Bailey Hutchison totally fits that description.

My thought is though, if he picks another woman, then that just proves that he's picking a woman just because she's a woman.

Did even make sense?

Oh, I think he should stick with Sarah. "She's pretty and I like her!"

Kay wants to be governor of Texas. Don't worry about her.

(With luck, she'll get get beaten in that by Kinky Friedman, or even Houston Mayor Bill White, who has impressed even some of the conservatives with his handling of Hurricane Ike, and that will be the end of one of the biggest bushbots around)

With all this, "suspend the campaign - postpone the debate" business, my very first thought was that, underneath it all, the real goal was to end up postponing/canceling the VP debate.

I still can't get over the Houston Mayors Brown/White thing. What color do you think they'll elect next?

re: More incoherent babble from Sarah Palin

Ummm, yeah. I can't imagine what his advisers/puppetmasters must have been saying to him.

"John, this is brilliant! We suspend the campaign so you swoop in like Superman to...wait for it, wait for it...save the economy! This way Obama doesn't look like he cares! And, as the cherry on top, we have more time to whip the bimbo into shape! You're beyond criticism if you do this, Maverick! You're gold! FOUR MORE YEARS! FOUR MORE YEARS!!!"

re: More incoherent babble from Sarah Palin

Well the scary thing is, Keith Olberman mentioned on Rachel Maddow's show last night that what makes the McCain campaign brilliant are all these things bring attention to his campaign that you forget his most recent blunders. I certainly don't, but he made a good point.

Art - I agree with you, and I've written the same in other threads. In fact, the McCain campaign has proposed moving tonight's debate to the scheduled VP debate, and postponing the VP debate indefinitely.

Calvin - Tootsie Red is sooooo 80s! I hear it's coming back, though.

re: More incoherent babble from Sarah Palin

I really didn't want to start a new thread about this, but did you see that there are Republican candidates on the Washington State ballot that refuse to be listed as Republicans, so they're using "GOP Party" instead so as to confuse voters?

Now back to incoherent Sarah....

re: More incoherent babble from Sarah Palin

Dottie - I would love to see that backfire as Republicans end up voting Democrat because they believe they don't have a candidate on the ballot.

re: More incoherent babble from Sarah Palin

Watching her being interviewed makes me so uncomfortable. I know I should take pleasure (and later I do), but at the time it makes me squirm.

The Couric interview reminded me of the I LOVE LUCY episode where they go on the radio quiz show. Lucy's memorized the answers, but doesn't realize the questions have been changed.

Dottie, they're listing themselves as the Grand Old Party Party? Better stop at the ATM Machine next to the Department of Redundancy Department on their way to the polls.

Reginald - I had a similar experience, but it involved Noises Off. Just stick to the script no matter what happens!

"Small town" has nothing to do with it, SNAFU.

Stupid exists in all Zip codes."

Perhaps I phrased it wrong. I don't think she is stupid. I think she is a smart woman who was able to run a very small town and govern (to various degrees of success) a small populace. I don't think is qualified for the job she is running for. Perhaps it was a very stupid move on her part to accept the nomination, ego and ambition took over. I think McCain is stupid for picking her (or amazingly crafty if she does bow out and Leiberman steps in)

Yes- McGovern's VP Tom Eagleton stepped aside after it was reveled he'd had electroshock for depression a decade earlier. Sargent Shriver stepped in to take his place. McGovern lost in the second biggest landslide in US history.

Stupidity is not a precondition for living in a small town
