Bar Girls - ick. I hate when they have to get all PC. Which all lesbian movies seem to have to do.
Desert Hearts was the closest to a good lesbian movie, except it's not really a lesbian movie, now, is it?

Posted: 9/2/04 at 10:28amSelf empowering, unromantic and decidedly realistic. I actually respect the film for not giving in to that ending, but that doesn't mean I didn't want it to happen. You know?

Posted: 9/2/04 at 10:30am"Get Real" was exactly what I said after watching that movie. I couldn't believe how stereotypical it was and just insulting.

Posted: 9/2/04 at 10:35amCome now, Matt, it is nowhere near as bad as some homo movies out there.

Though Get Real may have had some stereotypic moments, it was actually pretty accurate given people's actual behavior patterns. I found it more "real" than most gay romantic films like Broken Hearts Club or Trick. Besides, stereotypes are based on truth. The nerdy boy gets the pretty jock because the jock cannot find another outlet as accessible for his sexuality. As soon as he is threatened to be outed, he leaves the nerd. The evil straight jocks beat up the nerd because they suspect he is gay. Nerdy boy comes out and talks about sex with his best female friend. I don't know about you, but that sounds exactly like high school life when I was a teenager.
So what was so insulting? The fact that they portrayed pretty accurately emotions and situations of many teenage gay boys?

Posted: 9/2/04 at 10:51amI think I'm just sick and tired of seeing the same exact plot in queer cinema. Try something new, people! GREGG ARAKI, WHERE ARE YOU!?!?!?!?

Maurice is one of my all-time favorites. That f*cking crickett scene is so friggin beautiful. As is Rupert Graves. DAMN!
I also enjoy Broken Hearts Club and Coco Peru in Trick (Coco in anything tickles me!)
As for a lesbian movie, I was actually greatly surprised by how much I liked Chutney Popcorn. Though the lead woman (and director I believe) left a little something to be desired in the acting department, it was actually very witty and sweet. And Jill Hennessey is kinda hot...for a girl.

Posted: 9/2/04 at 10:56amOh ma gosh, HE'S directing that? The book is incredible, I recommend it highly.
#37re: most romantic gay movie?
Posted: 9/2/04 at 11:00amBound is not a lesbian movie. A movie with a lesbian moment or two is not a lesbian movie.
#39re: most romantic gay movie?
Posted: 9/2/04 at 11:02amBut Bound has THE hottest girl on girl action I have ever seen in a movie. Even I was a little aroused.
#40re: most romantic gay movie?
Posted: 9/2/04 at 11:02amVery romantic, pop.

We all have our own version of romance, Rath!
Have you seen Chutney Popcorn? It's really cute.
#42re: most romantic gay movie?
Posted: 9/2/04 at 11:04amTheir arc in Bound was romantic, didn't you think? And the sex was hot.
#43re: most romantic gay movie?
Posted: 9/2/04 at 11:05amBut it's not a lesbian movie. You can tell because it's good.
#44re: most romantic gay movie?
Posted: 9/2/04 at 11:07amIt's a lesbian heist thriller and that's one of the reasons I love it. The movie is not about the fact that they are lesbians, it's incidental to the plot. We need more movies like this.

Posted: 9/2/04 at 11:08amI hated The Living End and The Doom Generation. I found nothing likeable about either film. And talk about being sick of plots, do we need more teen angst shock flicks?
#46re: most romantic gay movie?
Posted: 9/2/04 at 11:08amThe Living End was HATEFUL!!!!!!!!
#47re: most romantic gay movie?
Posted: 9/2/04 at 11:11amIt might be hateful, but you have to admit it was original and went where no gay movie had gone before.
#48re: most romantic gay movie?
Posted: 9/2/04 at 11:13amIt was meant to be hateful. And I really liked Doom Generation. Nowhere is unwatchable though.

Posted: 9/2/04 at 11:14amwell, i'll admit it's no no man's land 11 (the one with jeanna fine, anna malle and alicia rio), but the arc of the story finds two women falling in love. that's not a lesbian movie?
