He was involved in a hit tv series of the 60's decade.He was being courted for a sleeper hit movie that became a classic and launched the career of a than unknown actor. The producers of the tv show would not let him do the role and the rest is history. Name the actor and the movie.

From my understanding he is looking for:
(a) The name of the well known actor from the television show being offered the role in the film - and possibly the title of that show.
(b) The name of the film and/or role.
(c) The name of the unknown actor who went on to play the role originally offered to the actor from the television show.

Per IMDB: Burt Ward had to turn down the role of Benjamin Braddock due to his commitment to Batman (1966) and the studio (20th Century Fox) wouldn't lend him.

I knew this as I just watched THE GRADUATE last week and did some reading up on it. So it was still fresh in my mind.
I gotta admit that Theater_Nerd's guess was a pretty damn good guess as well.

Was The Graduate a sleeper? I thought some of the biggest names in Hollywood auditioned for some of the roles.

Ward would have had to call for Batman to help him out of all the crap the character went thru in the movie. Found out this info reading a book batman from the comics,serials,tv show and movies

THE GRADUATE was most definitely NOT a sleeper.

Fact-fans, Marion Dougherty was responsible for both Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate and Jon Voight in Midnight Cowboy too - y'all should check out the great documentary about her, and other unsung female casting directors, "Casting By".

That character didn't go through crap, he put HIMSELF through crap.
In re-watching the film I found myself thinking that the character of "Benjamin Braddock" is really a creep.

The first once played her own paternal grandmother in a big screen biopic.
The second recently played the famously fictionalized version of the first actress's maternal great grandmother on stage.
The third is the first's actress's daughter, who has her mother's last name and her mother's mother's first name, and is perhaps best known for her role on a current tv series.
