Well Matt,
I’m not sure I can explain it to you but I will give it a go.
The Phantom and the Hunchback were both human beings who just happened to be born looking different. Neither man was a “monster”. They were both human beings, treated horribly by their fellow man/woman. Both of their disfigurements may have been easily fixed by surgeon of today.
Erik’s sin was that he wanted love and be loved in return. We don’t know about his early life but I somehow doubt that things were very easy for him at that time either. If Erik had found a blind woman, someone to care for and be care for by who would not have turned from him because of his looks, I think the story would have been quite different.
In the end, he is just as alone and as in pain as he always was. He’s dying and no one should ever die either alone or in pain.
I cry for him because I want so much to help him
What else can I say?

OK. Movies that make my cry.
The Way We Were
My first romance was failing and we went to see the new Streisand movie. WRONG MOVE.
While the best thing that could have happened was to lose the witch, I can't help having emotional recall everytime I see it and think about the way we were. I ball every time.
Yeah, and somtimes I'm even balling wearing my jersey, too.

For me, nothing works those tear ducts like Shirley Temple.
CAPTAIN JANUARY, when she gets taken away from Buddy Ebsen ("Cap! I don't wanna go!")...HEIDI, when she teaches Marsha Mae Jones how to walk, WEE WILLIE WINKIE (Victor McClauglin's death scene) and in THE LITTLE PRINCESS ("My Daddy has to go away...snif snif..") are the ones that come to mind.
Fun Marsha Mae fact: She grows up to have a supporting role in...THE WAY WE WERE!

I'll tell ya something that made me cry was, "Me and My Shadow: Life With Judy Garland." But it was the book that made me cry, more so than the movie.
I got the pages damp while I was reading. lol

Posted: 2/4/04 at 9:09pmI love War of the Worlds! I too cried for the Martians, but then again I also laughed when someone threw a wrench at one of the aliens and it ran away screaming. I remember watching that same part of the movie over and over, rewinding it over and over. Ah, fond memories!

**Antwone Fischer (okay, who's seen this movie? don't tell me you didn't cry when he walked in and met all his family for the first time. I was BAWLING)
**Finding Nemo
**Beaches
**Never Been Kissed
**Boys on the Side
**Stepmom
**A League of Their Own
**The Christmas Shoes (I cried equally as much at both the book and the movie.)

CJR, I can't believe I forgot about "The Christmas Shoes." I bawl during that movie. My Mother walked in when I was watching it and thought someone in real life had died the way I was carrying on. I can't even listen to the song on the radio without breaking down.
I think that movie and "The Last Best Year" are the only movies where I actually cried starting after the first 20 minutes and didn't stop until after the movie was over.

I weep tears of joy whenever a gal is taking her walk down a runway.
Some favorites:
Peggy, 1950
Beauty on Parade, 1950
Wicked as They Come, 1956 (love the title!)
The Great American Beauty Contest, 1973 (Farrah's in it)
Smile, 1975 (my very favorite!)
Miss Firecracker, 1989
Shag, 1989
Drop Dead Gorgeous, 1999
Happy, Texas, 1999
Beautiful, 2000 (You gotta love a knocked-up beauty queen!)
Miss Congeniality, 2000

I'm an old-fashioned girl who tends to cry more at the opera than movies. Something about you being right near the people affects me. Nothing gets me like the end of La Traviata or Lucia diLammermoor. Or Werther. Despite Roberto Alagna having a hard-on during the performance I saw of it, I was in tears throughout almost the entire thing.
"Can't we do a happy opera next time, Maestro Levine?"

TheaterBaby -- have you read the book? Oh. My. God. Read it before I ever even saw the movie (I had clearly heard the song before that though)... bawled my freaking eyes out.
I had missed the movie on tv last year, but caught it this year. My little brother (who's 11) came in while I was watching it... right around the part where the little boy is going to buy the shoes (and watched through the end) and even HE started to cry. He was like "this is not cool. I'm crying like a girl. Not cool at all!" awwwe!

I liked Mr. Holland's Opus. I cried for a second when they had that lovely tribute for him at the end.
I was crying last night when I was watching "Sliding Doors." I forgot that it made me cry at the end. lol That is an awesome movie by the way.
