'My Broadway Debut' on CBS

MY BROADWAY DEBUT

They say there's a broken heart for every light on Broadway. But there's a lot to be said for getting a shot at stardom. The Early Show, in conjunction with The League of Broadway Theatres and Producers, and Actors Equity, is providing that chance for ten young drama students. Each day next week, two aspiring stars will audition live on the program, singing an excerpt from a Broadway musical number. Each of the Broadway shows represented has been helping students select their songs and rehearse.

Then, at the end of week, you can vote for your favorite performer. Voting begins Friday at 9 a.m. ET after The Early Show and ends at midnight. The winner will be revealed Monday, June 5, and will perform a song from “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” before heading off for a very special Broadway debut and a behind-the-scenes feature, which will air sometime before the Tony Awards, which is set for Sunday, June 11.

Starts Monday. Anyone going to be watching?

Jesus. I can only hope I sleep in on Wicked day. That could be an unmitigated disaster for CBS. We're talking Charlie Sheen level here.

Let's hope that they're better than that Rent video which has been making the rounds that was a performance by theatre students at Arcadia U.

I'd love to see this and hope I can catch it (do not have a working VCR and have not joined the TiVo revolution yet) . Thanks for the info.

Do any of you guys remember the documentary from either 1997 or 1998, when they were doing the national seach for the Broadway revival of Annie? They had initlally selected this incredible young girl fom Philly, who used to sing in her father's barbershop. She was a doll! She also had a beautiful, beautiful voice, but due to politics she was replaced. I think there was some sort of lawsuit. I wonder what happened to that gifted little girl.

"Wasnt worth sitting through the entire Early Show... but I cant wait for Avenue Q day!"

Agreed!
Hopefully they'll all be on the same time each day (8:30ish) so I don't have to sit through the whole show.

I thought the girl was great! Her voice was awesome. The guy, not so much.

I was kinda iffy on the performances. I thought they were ok but nothing spectacular. I thought they'd be better.

The girl looked like her eyes were going to pop out.

And both of them were enunciating too much. I'll all for understanding what's being said/sung but I think they emphasized some of the words way too much.

How are they going to manage to sing songs from Avenue Q without the network bleeping out dirty words? This should be interesting.

Is there a video of their actual performances...all I can find on that site is a video about the contest.

I'm pretty sure the girl will sing "Fine, Fine Line"

Perhaps the boy will sing "What do you don with a BA in English?"

I'm pretty sure he's singing Purpose... I have friends at FSU who know him.

re: 'My Broadway Debut' on CBS

I was going to say that he might sing "Purpose" but they're gonna have to cut out a$$, as opposed to BA in English doesn't have any curse words.

I'm sure they can easily change the word a$$ to something else though.
