re: 'My Broadway Debut' on CBS

I taped it...I have to watch it when I get home.

What show are they doing tomorrow? Hairspray or Ave. Q?

Hairspray.

What songs did they sing from Wedding Singer? I'm so mad I forgot to set up my DVR this morning

re: 'My Broadway Debut' on CBS

the guy sang 'Grow Old With You' and the girl kinda sang 'In the Dumpster'. Tomorrow they're singing 'Run and Tell That' and 'Can't Stop the Beat' (supposedly). And Friday they're singing 'Fine Fine Line' and 'Purpose' (supposedly).

re: 'My Broadway Debut' on CBS

She actually didn't forget the lyrics. They gave her the end of the song, which gave her nothing to do. They should've had her do 'If I Told You'. And I just listened to that track on TWS site, and that's exactly how the end goes. She got a horrible part of the song to show her range.

I adored the guy. He was so adorable and completely gave off the sweet sentiment that the song gives. It wasn't much for his range, but he has such a rich voice. (Randomly, he was kind of Abe from Altar Boyz-esque for me, but not a bad thing).

almostxfamous, she DID forget a line. She left out the line after 'now you're back where you started', which is ' on your way to success, so' and then sang 'will you sing at my wedding'. It totally threw her off and she had a horrified look on her face when she sang 'noooo'.

re: 'My Broadway Debut' on CBS

in context, when it's sang in the show, does she have a sad/disappointed look on her face when she sings "no?"

Robbie sings that line in the show but no, not with a sad expression. That was more a look of horror/disbelief on her face at forgetting the lines than it was of sadness/disappointment. I feel bad for her.

me too...I'm voting for her anyway.

re: 'My Broadway Debut' on CBS

In any case, I felt for her, because it was incredibly awkward. I think that yesterday's pair had the more difficult assignment, singing from The Wedding Singer. The pairs from the other three days all sang from shows whose albums have been out for ages, so, likely, they were singing songs with which they were already familiar. Just an observation.

I agree, however, that the guy from yesterday was adorable.

They totally nailed it today. Both of them did an excellent job with Hairspray and with amazing stage presence.

re: 'My Broadway Debut' on CBS

DBilly, I don't know if I'd consider it a more difficult assignment to do a newer song. With the songs from the older shows, many viewers would be familiar with them, so it's more likely that they're not going to like the version of someone new doing them, because, frankly, most of these performances haven't been that great. These are all MT majors so learning these numbers shouldn't be that difficult. It's not even the entire song they're singing. This is the kind of thing they're doing (or should be!) in class all the time so it's not that difficult.

re: 'My Broadway Debut' on CBS

Good points, Erin, and I agree with you. My point, however, referred specifically to whether or not she forgot her lines ... having to learn and sing a new song versus having to sing a song I already know.

Renthead, you don't have to decide between them; there will be one male and one female winner of the competition. I agree that they were both great.

re: 'My Broadway Debut' on CBS

erinrebecca, I don't really understand what you mean, but she did sing the 'On your way to success' part because I had just listened to the song and wished she would've used her head voice.

They were both really good today. They weren't complete standouts, but I enjoyed it.

re: 'My Broadway Debut' on CBS

I think Lifeoftheparty is completely right...I mean we saw these people sing maybe 32 bars of a song that might not have been in their ideal vocal range. They aren't professionals yet and they must all be very nervous. A bunch of people are speaking as if any of us have a clue of what they were looking for on the day of the audition or what they are capable of at their respective schools. We are all entitled to our opinions of each performance, but we should give credit to how brave the kids were to go onto television to do this...the people who are overly opinionated are sounding like they have a twinge of jealousy of not being on the show yourself
