I wrote to their customer service people two days ago but haven't heard back yet - so perhaps someone out there knows -
I created a profile there, then realized I should have done it as an artist, because I'd like to post some sound bytes of me singing. (which you can only do if registered as an artist) Do I have to delete the profile I created and start all over again? or can they change it to an artist profile, saving all the work I did on the page so far?
Not a big deal - but I like the way it looks so far, and if I have to start over again - well - it won't be as much fun!LOL...

No. Unfortunately you'll have to create a new artist profile and start from scratch.
You'll have to start over, but if you like the work you've put into your current page, why not just open a new account, copy and paste whatever info and codes you've done already into the new account, and then close the first account? yee-yuh.
While we're on the topic of MySpace help, does anyone know how I can add a background picture to that one table that includes "add as friend" "pm" etc.?
I'm not sure...but maybe type in "contact table" on google. There might be some guides on how to personalize it.
Well, you were all right - I kept both accounts open - one that is more personal and then opened one as an artist. didn't take me as long as I thought it might. Thanks for the helpful advice.

I absolutely hate myspace. I don't understand the point of it.
I think the whole point of it is for networking purposes. It allows people to put themselves out there (for free) and have others judge their work and comment on it - and possibly hire them or suggest them for some project or other. I rarely work in the business anymore - but hey, if someone likes what they see - why not take advantage of myspace to further yourself and your friends?
I have a dear friend who is a professionaly photographer, and he's gotten tons of work from his myspace profile, where he shows examples of his work.
I keep up with a lot of friends from childhood, high school, etc through MySpace.
You can google things like Pimp MySpace, MySpace layouts and you'll find sites for days.....

Myspace is a Godsend for me. First of all, its networking purposes are wonderful, especially for theater. It had made keeping connections up with people I meet and work on productions with infinitely easier. I can keep up with what my colleagues and friends are currently working on, and they can keep up with what I am working on. I've also been able to keep in touch with college friends that I know I would have drifted from and reconnect with pals from high school that I hadn't spoken with since graduation.

This is more of a myspace problem but I'm not making a new thread.
About a week ago, my friend sent me a message on myspace. Ever since then, the red "New Message" sign has been up.
Anybody else have (or had) this problem?

Yes, and Tom even has a bulletin posted about it. It's just a glitch. They're working on it.

Oh, ok Erica, thank you!
Tom isn't on my list so I better add him to see the bulletins he posts.
the help department wasn't very helpful to me either. I was to resign from one of my groups, but the only way to do that is to get the group page to open and every time I try it says it's an invalid ID. so I'm stuck belonging to a group that I can't even participate in that I no longer even wish to be a part of.

SweetQ: He isn't on my friends list, either, but he posts major bulletins (i.e. technical issues, etc.) right on your home page, regardless. (NOT in the bulletins section.) It's usually under where your photo and your editing options are, but above where your Inbox, etc. are, and it's in in a box, in red type, if I remember correctly. :-P
Anyway, it's not there anymore on my home page, so I'm guessing the powers-that-be feel the problem is more or less resolved.

I don't have any bulletins on my page from him.
And I still have the message sign.
Hmm...if it doesn't go away in a couple days, I'll message someone.
Thanks

SweetQ: I think you misunderstood me. It's a GLITCH. We're all getting them.
I still have phantom "New Message" and "New Friend Request" notices popping up all the time.
The bulletin from Tom is NO LONGER THERE. But it WAS there. You must have missed it when it WAS there.
And all that the bulletin said was that it was a glitch, and they're working on it, and to please stop messaging him about it, because they know.
i can't even get to the home page
i hate you tom
