Posted: 1/16/07 at 2:12amFor some reason, I kind of want to see this. It looks amusing in a stupidly goofy sorta way. Is this feeling a result of me being so blinded by Eddie Murphy's extremely awesome work in DREAMGIRLS or does anyone else think that this movie has the potential to possibly be quite good?

Eddie Murphy has been in need of a good agent for over a decade now. Dreamgirls proves he has dramatic and vocal chops, and his early work proves his comedic ability. He just desperately needs movies to actually showcase his real talents.

I think it looks awful and could be horrible fodder for mean, fat jokes. But, the makeup is pretty incredible. Interesting how the posters look like a Nutty Professor film sequel--font and colors, etc.
I hope he wins the Oscar for Dreamgirls.

Looks funny, but stupid at the same time. Good movie to watch while you're miserable witih a pint of Ben and Jerry's on a Saturday night.

Eddie Murphy has always been one of my favorites. Depsite the 20 bad movies for every good one.
husk - I was talking to someone about that.
Although his best "in make-up" performance is the Old Jew in COMING TO AMERICA (one of my favorites!). That was brilliant.

Posted: 2/8/07 at 10:40pmIt's playing this weekend at free movie weekend for my school, alongside Dreamgirls...we were thinking of a Double Eddie Murphy Feature, and then we realized we would have to see "Dreamgirls" second...and by that point I may have already commited suicide, so we opted against it.

Someone emailed me the trailer a few weeks ago, and I thought it was a satire.
When I realized it wasn't, I couldn't believe it.

I think it is kinda weird timing for him with a movie like this and being so close to winning an oscar.
However, I REALLY WANNA SEE THIS!
This girl saying "You got a girlfriend? Well you do Now!" is so funny!!!!!!

I am planning on seeing this. The only thing that's keeping me from going is the inevitable horrendous crowd it will attract.
I love Eddie Murphy, and I love the humor in the trailers. There's something about a big black woman in the fashion of Norbit and Madea that always makes me smile and laugh.

Stephanie Zacharek in Salon.com gave it a dissapointed pan:
"The gags in "Norbit" are wearying and assaultive, and none of the actors -- including, sometimes, Murphy himself -- seem to know what to do with them. The movie was written by Jay Scherick and David Ronn, from a story by Eddie Murphy and his brother, Charles Murphy; the director is Brian Robbins, who can't get a firm grip on this squirmy material. The picture feels so desperate for laughs that it's almost embarrassing to watch: After Rasputia runs over a neighbor dog that she dislikes for no good reason, the little guy reappears with inert back legs and wheels strapped to his torso. Later, perhaps because that just isn't funny enough (or at all), he talks, advising Norbit in a tough-guy voice to more or less "waste the bitch." Done right, puerile humor can be freeing, exhilarating; but it can also make you feel like the prisoner of idiots, and "Norbit" is constricting in the worst way."

With this kind of negative buzz and crappy advance reviews, the movie is sure to break $200 million.
