I wasnt saying it was a true statement, just that it was earlier than the mid 80s as I recall, and that was the statement I heard attributed to her...I believed it then, I'll admit.

Oh yeah...and I remember kicking Anita in the gut in 1992. It was the third of June, another sleepy dusty delta day.

If those activists had kept quiet and not stoned her with peach pits, we gays today might be getting stoned with, uh, stones.
(eta -- though I'm not sure of the relevance here, because I don't think Anita Bryant has ever backed away from anything she said)

Do it to me again and again!
You put me in such an awful spin, in a spin.
I love to love you baby.
Lay your head down real close to me.
Soothe my mind and set me free, set me free.
I love to love you baby.
I love to love you baby...
I love to love you baby...
I love to love you baby...
Love to love you baby baby...

Suzanne: I never use catalogs. I'd rather go in the store and see all the salespeople groveling and sucking up to you.
Julia: Pardon me, I never knew they were so solicitous at the K-Mart.

"Anita Bryant is a bedpan with feet" or "Anita Bryant looks like you, only without a human head and lives in a shopping cart"-quotes from Judy Tenuta about Anita. Just to give muscle a "visual feel for her"

oh, so Mandisa was an IDOL singer.
Isn't it un-Christian to be worshipped as an idol?!?!?
I'll admit that some comments stick in my craw, but I try to look at the balance of their lives and remember how new to PR some are---for instance, when Wil Smith was doing press for SIX DEGREES (the film), he said Denzel advised him not to kiss men on screen. My attitude was and is, don't take the role if you are uncomfortable with the implications. They both went on to very good, and some cases, nearly sensitive to the cause, work (Denzel in PHILADELPHIA, though that film has some issues and so did his character). Everyone evolves at a different rate.

Will: They don't give out awards for helping people be gay... unless you count the Tonys.

"Don't forget when the gays stoned Anita Bryant with peach pits in the late 70's."
"The gays"? Is that like "the blacks"?
"Bryant later went bankrupt and discovered that one of her sons was gay."
Oh, the irony!
