Craig,
It was scary when it happened. But it was really no big deal.
I was asked to show id and he let me go.
But it was still the scariest thing to ever happen to me.
I am pretty lucky. (KNOCKS WOOD)
Wait one minute Corine....were you in NYC on 9/11??? Did you know what it is like to go for days, weeks, months and years to know what happened to a family memeber who was working at the world trade center that day -- I find this insulting and beyond reproach......to even insinuate any comparison is simply childish and shows a lack of respect for the families of 9/11 victims and the police and fire fighters who tried to HELP that day and the days following......

So let me get this straight.
Tonight......Police were hitting people, throwing nets on them, handcuffing them, apparently stopping people from going to Broadway shows, because you had to ask to go past them, and doing all this, in the theater district, where most of the tourists are, near Times Square, in midtown????? Was there a riot there that I don't know about??
I mean, by the sound of this, I'm expecting pictures to surface shortly of innocent theater goers force to strip and the police pointing at their genitals and laughing.
"I have never seen the City this out of control since Sept 11th."
That's a pretty scary picture you painted for us corine and now you are acting like it's not that big of a deal. And you asked to go and THEN he asked for ID. Was he checking ID's of everyone? Why would he single you out?
I think what people are reacting is your shocking reaction about this "incident" and then slipping into your love of Rent, Ave Q and then backpeddling on the whole netting thing. I could be wrong...
Her name is Corine2!
I'm flipping back and forth between CNN, Headline News, Fox News, Cspan, MSNBC and I'm just not seeing anything about this! Maybe it'll be on the front page tomorrow, though.
is this a joke?
Corine's ID incident, Matt_G, or the netting?

um..........so........what did the people do once they were caught in the "nets?" Did they just stand there? Did a big truck come along with a giant claw and load up all the netted? Did they hang the nets with the theater goers in then from light posts in Times Square?
Just to interject-
It was not as BAD AS SEPT 11TH (there was no violence) but there was no violence on Sept 11th.(Police violence Craig)
Why I MADE THE COMMENT WAS BECAUSE the City feels like it did back then. Cops everywhere.
It is really a chilly feel.
I was in the City on Sept 11th.
No one hurt me. It was just a scary feeling like Sept 11th.

Did you have to use your pepper spray?
Welcome to the renthead fan club Corine. I have seen the show on tour, but I want to see it on broadway so bad. Anyway, that is terrible with the nets. I am glad we have reverted back to the 1960's. Next thing you know, they will pull out a big hose and spray people with it (Dirty thoughts be gone, people) like they did with the civil rights movement.

Were the police on horseback throwing the nets on the people?
Corine, if people are being netted in Times Square, innocent people at that, than I think something needs to be done. You obviously got a good look at these guys because they asked to see your press pass and let you go to see RENT while they kept the others netted up like in PLANET OF THE APES. It's a shame they weren't going to go see WICKED. They could still be there now!
But you should report this incident since there wasn't a camera to capture it. And that must be the first time since the first Japanese tourist came over here that Times Square wasn't photographed.
I have to get off this thread. Corine, I feel that the loss of THOUSANDS of lives on 9/11 was very much a "violent" day. I, personally cannot believe you would refer to it otherwise. And perhaps you forget, but all over america on 9/11 and days after there were plenty of incidents of violence against people of different race because of it. I give up...

Were the nets made of rope, or were they synthetic?
God people you are really over-reacting.
It was not as bad as that. The police were using force but no one got hurt. It was scary to me. It happened to me.
Now let's please move on.
And I am sorry if anyone took what I said in the wrong way.
The City is my love. I love it here. It just is sad that we have to live this way now.
Make love not war.
Goodnight.
BUT POLICE ARE NETTING TOURISTS IN THE STREETS!!!! WHAT'S NEXT??????
MY GOD, CORINE! THIS WAS TERRIFYING! I WOULD NEED THERAPY IF I WERE YOU! HOW ARE YOU JUST FORGETTING ABOUT IT SO FAST?????
you live in a twisted state of mind lady -- I pity you....
NETTING PEOPLE, I SAID!!!

note to self: "if craig doesn't see it, it didn't happen." i'll just tuck that one in my back pocket.
I'm on the phone with CNN, Corine. What was the officer's name who asked you for a press pass so you could get out of the net with the other poor ticketless souls? He wants a picture of you, too. Did anyone happen to take one of you trying to escape with their camera phone?
