When does the Convention leave because I'm leaving for NYC tomorrow for a week, and it'd be great if (nets or not) I didnt have to deal with any of it.

I haven't read this thread until now...
Corine, I have the official press credential given by the spanish government... and everyone that owns a press pass have to know the ethics behind this. And it clearly says: NEVER USE THIS PASS TO YOUR OWN PURPOSES.
If some cops "nets" a true journalist, probably this one never show his press id. He will let the cops "chase" him, and later write about this. That's what journalist do.
You don't have more rights than the people who were there. And this is one of the most importants things behind a responsible journalist.

I have to say that amongst the very many issues that I find disturbing in this thread, the one I can't stop going back to is the press pass. If you are given one for something you did a year or two ago, and are no longer doing it, is it still valid? Can I cover an event, say Standing Ovations 2, obtain a press pass, and then use that as valid identification a year from now? Just how significant ARE press passes? And how is one obtained? Anyone know?

Actually, I have a fair idea, being married to a journalist and all, and although he is away covering a story and I can't ask him for sure, my impression has always been that a press pass is used in context to an event that is being covered. For instance, it allows him to enter a restricted area because he is covering a story. I'm becoming more and more curious as to how Corine presented her press pass. Was she on her way to cover a story on Rent?

It always rankles me when people are fast and free with bestowing themselves with titles and pseudodocumentation for which others have actually worked hard: security guards who call themselves cops, receptionists in doctors' offices who don a lab coat and suddenly think they are nurses...well, I'm sure most of you catch my drift. No need to beat a dead horse.

And before I sign off, somewhat tangentially, I'm having trouble processing that Corine, who manages to afford to see more live theater than I thought financially possible, had never seen RENT until now? With its many socially relevant themes, I would have thought it would have touch Corine's heart long before yesterday.

The person from Zanna last night was not Jai. It was Enrico Rodriquez from Zanna.
To answer your question Iff, I paid for my Rent tickets on TDF.
I only get tickets if I cover a show and 99 percent of the time I pay for my tickets.
Also Iff- Sometimes when I cover and event I still don't ask.
I did an interview with Gregg Edelman and bought the tickets to see Wonderful Town. I am sure the Press agent would have given me a seat but I paid.
And speaking of loss KMF a few months before Sept 11, a day before fathers day I lost my father who was my best friend.
It was the biggest LOSS in my life and a few weeks ago I LOST MY MENTOR who was like a Father to me when my Dad passed. So please understand, I have had my share of loss. Updated On: 9/1/04 at 07:56 AM

Plum, if you only knew. They are housing the protestors who are arrested in an abadoned transportation building down by Pier 57. They come out with oil and gas slick all over them from sitting and laying on the floors and the building is contaminated with asbestos. The union that used to have their trucks there has come forward to speak out and say that they had employees who suffered health problems and that is why they abandoned the building. There are now lawyers involved.

This city is making a big mistake. They will end up with lots of lawsuits on their hands. I thought we had the right to speak our minds but apparently not without retribution, huh?

"Thank god for my press pass"
"He said may I see id (thank god for my pass)"

So, Corine, in other words, people WITHOUT press passes were swept up in a net? I don't understand why the big deal about your press pass. Any valid photo ID I'm sure would have been fine. I don't think you received special treatment for your precious press pass for heaven's sake. But at least you got your point across to all of us - HEY!! CORINE HAS A PRESS PASS, EVERYONE!!

Just because I said she's a lesbian, doesn't make it so. I personally have never seen her pierced labia, but either she's a lesbian or a very rare non-white male member of the Log Cabinettes. Almost as rare as the great white shark.
