Posted: 3/6/06 at 9:11amMy only comment DG is that (perhaps an ugly truth) - the board is not all that different from real life. There will be people you like and people you don't. There will be conversations you are "excluded" from and one's you are embraced in. There will be cliquish behavior and there will be other such "nonsense". It's a dynamic that can't and won't change. It just is. There are many ways handle the situation You can either accept it and go about your business - or you can let it frustrate and anger you. Those two options being the biggest. For me, I choose to accept it and go about my business.

Posted: 3/6/06 at 9:14amNot that it answers any of your questions D, but I learned long ago that there is a very large and completely separate BWW happening in PM. Not all of what is posted off-topic is the complete picture.

Craig - you are absolutely correct - and for the most part, it is exactly what I do. Sometimes, though, my steam vent just opens up to relieve a little pressure.
And SOMMS - I know. I've already received a couple of PMs offerring to explain the situation with Corine - which ultimately isn't even the point.

Craig is right, but an occasional urge to rant is very understandable, I think. I don't really know which comments prompted this thread (probably haven't read enough threads to notice), but I understand the sentiment. So you speak your mind, vent, and then go about your business. And think of happier things. :)

I also agree with Craig, although I must ask:
Why are some people on this board allowed to personally attack other posters?
I don't have any problem with cliques or inside jokes, it is that some of them are blatant, and some are pretty nasty.

I tend to avoid this type of discussion because I try to avoid the drama if at all possible - even if it is at the expense of being "one of the cool kids".
That is probably precisely the reason I don't interact in a lot of the threads that you are referencing, DG.
I don't get the negativity either.
I would like to say thanks to the couple of people in this thread who referenced me specifically as one of the "good guys".
Now, back to my groggy, 6:55 zombie like state.

I have to comment on this thread. I am not an idiot. People who have nothing better than to bash others are the ones who are idiots.
If you don't like me or my site don't come. If you are green with envy, why not do something yourself?
Bashing me just makes you look like an idiot.
Enough said.
PS: Bragging about being a snake says it all. If you need to bash me to feel better about yourself you need a lot of help.

No. I am not. I am angry with the bash Corine posse that DG is talking about. Additionally, I try not to let the turkeys get me down.
People who spend time concentrating on me must mean they have nothing in their lives. I have a very good life, time to get back to it.

I've never understood any of that bashing Corine crap. When I see a heading - and see the name of the originator - I don't even bother to open it.
For what it's worth - a small group of about a dozen BWW'ers met in DC between Christmas and New Year's this year. It will probably shock you all to know that we actually talked about almost everyone here. It will further shock you to hear that not one word of negative criticism was included in that chatter. On the contrary - whenever someone mentioned a name and commented that the posts from that individual were uncomfortably acidic, someone else who actually knew the poster would intercede with comments on just how really nice that person was. Of course this prompted an immediate discussion on all the wise-ass Corine bashing that's carried on by one or two posters here. Not a soul at that table could figure out why it was happening. In fact the table was unanimous in feeling that Corine is one of the most gracious, generous, and kind posters here.

As far as Corine is concerned, I think there are posters who make harmless jokes, in good fun, about her promoting her website. Then, there are others who take it too far and make personal attacks. But, I can see how posts and posters might get blurred.
And, Mamie, I’d be willing to bet that my name did not come up in D.C.

Posted: 3/6/06 at 10:45amDarlin' - after one Bone Crusher and 2+ cosmos, I couldn't tell you exactly who was mentioned and who was not. It just seemed like an awfully large number of people had burning ears that night - and 'never was heard, a discouraging word'. (Slight paraphrasing of old cowboy song - in honor of BBM).

You lie, Moony, but thanks anyway!
Sanda - My interpretation is that DG is commenting on the constant and seemingly unprovoked negativity aimed at certain posters. I think he was just using Corine as an example.

I agree with what Craig said. Very nicely put.
Personally, I have strong opinions (both good and bad) on both Main Board and OT topics of "conversation," and I'm not afraid to state them. I find it childish and actually very WEAK whenever a poster chooses to make a personal comment about me or anyone else here, as opposed to stating their difference of opinion and being satisfied with that. I guess those are the people you mean are the "attackers." Yeah, they bore the brains out of me, generally. I try to refrain from lashing out at them, if at all possible. There is no point to it.
As far a cliques, I'm sure there are plenty of them here, but I don't care about that. I didn't start participating in the BWW threads to join a clique of any kind. I joined initially to voice and share opinions about Broadway and theatre with all of you... not SOME of you. I'm fascinated by how different people see things. I have been both inspired and disappointed by posters on BWW, but I suppose that's part of the cross-section. I don't think that some of the "revered" folks here on BWW are necessarily the most interesting, either. Sometimes it's the exact opposite, in fact.
Still, at least for now, the good outweighs the bad, and that keeps me coming back for more.

Sometimes it is quite nice to be an invisible person on BWW.
BWW is much like high school was for me. There's no group that I fit into, and I can agree or disagree with anyone at any given time since I haven't pledged my loyalties to any one clique. I have, I am aware, made comments that have either jumped to conclusions or been insensitive, but I have always tried to be quick to apologize and try to make amends. Hence, I'm pretty boring... and so I get to flit about the board and just be ME. It's nice not to have to maintain a persona - because I'm just who I am. Sometimes that's a little bit clueless, sometimes it's compassionate, sometimes it's sarcastic, sometimes it's sweet and I'm afraid sometimes it's downright cranky. But it's all me, and so at the end of the day I don't worry about what people are saying, because I'm not posting for approval, I'm posting as myself.

Maybe, I’m being naïve here, but I don’t see a lot of cliques. I just see that there are certain groups of posters who’ve been able to bond. They’ve made connections with each other. Until recently, I hadn’t spent enough time here to get to know anyone, but I didn’t feel like I was being excluded.
I just felt like people didn’t know me, or know how to take me. And, if you’re shy, it’s going to be even harder for people to figure out what you’re all about.

...which is why I think the Celebrity of the Day thread is such a gift to us all.
All-inclusive. The best of our community. We have all embraced it and made it a place to learn about the people we don't interract with on a daily basis (for a variety of reasons!) It's a wonderful celebration of ourselves as individuals, but, more importantly, as members of a community.
