New Disney Channel Movie - Descendants

Descendants will focus on the progeny of Disney baddies like Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, the Evil Queen and Jafar.

In the script, written by Josann McGibbon and Sara Parriott (The Starter Wife, Runaway Bride), the teenage son of the King and Queen (Beauty and the Beast's Beast and Belle) prepares to take the throne. His first act: Giving the offspring of Cruella De Vil and her evil ilk a chance at redemption.

Those villains have been cast off and imprisoned on a forbidden island. But their offspring — Carlos, Mal, Evvie and Jay — are given a chance to enter the kingdom and join a prep school alongside the kids of Disney heroes like the Fairy Godmother, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and Mulan.

Not gonna lie, this sounds kiiiiiind of amazing.

Okay, this either will be really great or really terrible. Disney Channel is AWFUL today and they're taking our childhood and either making it great or destroying it or whatever. This better be good.

And btw: If it's a musical, Alan Menken better do the music!

I didn't get a chance to talk about this when it was announced. I might tune into this since Belle and the Beast are my all-time my favorite Disney couple. And now they are a king and queen.

I just can't see Kristin Chenoweth playing the Mistress of all Evil. She would have been better suited for villains with humor like Cruella de Vil or Yzma from 'Emporer's New Groove'.

^If you have read the rest of the cast, you can tell that this movie is a big, fat embarassament. It's so sad to see Walt Disney's legacy trashed like this.

I love Cheno to death, but her as Maleficent is the most random and terrible casting I've ever seen. She would be a great Tinker Bell or the Fairy Godmother. Heck, maybe an older Snow White. This choice is just 100% wrong. Why not Idina (despite her musical)?

I can't see Kristin as a villain. I'll give her a chance, but I'm skeptical.

The idea itself sounds crazy anyway, in the League of Extraordinary Gentleman kind of way.

And we're supposed to believe that Jafar slept with a woman?

Cheno has the helium voice of a Disney animal sidekick, not a princess (she was originally cast as Rapunzel in what became Tangled) and definitely not a villain. Not to mention, she's three inches away from being a midget. Maleficent should command an impressive figure.

Looks like bad live-action Saturday morning stuff. That Cruello de Ville guy looks like the worst of Disney Channel got Nickelodeon pregnant and the morning sickness caused her to vomit the designs of every half-baked desperate attempt at "trendy teen" on the poor boy. Looks like the Disney Channel is living up to low expectations. Yikes.
