NELSON, New Zealand -- Authorities in the New Zealand city of Nelson have threatened rowdy teenagers with the latest in crime-fighting technology -- the music of US crooner Barry Manilow.
Police are considering playing "Copacabana," "Mandy," "I Write the Songs" and other Manilow classics, along with similar easy listening music from other artists, in prime downtown spots to discourage young people from loitering.
Police in the popular South Island tourist city believe the Manilow tunes will disperse groups who congregate in an inner-city carpark which has been the scene of fights and rowdy behavior, The Press newspaper reported Wednesday.
Bye Bye Bad Kids....Hello Drama Club
Little do the authorities know that the rowdy kids will be dispersed only to be replaced by tap dancing pirouetting theater kids EXPRESSING themselves. The fighting continues as the girls (2 real, 1 boy) cat fight over who will be cast as Dorothy in the local High School production of The Wizard of Oz.
I love that avatar!
thanks, elphaba. it's logan. *sigh*
Good old New Zealand police - the public don't like them using taser guns so they use Barry Manilow music
i must say it's creative...and hilarious. it's a great story.
Oh dear god! Not Barry Manilow!
They may have to steal this idea for Capitol Hill.
*edited for spelling..as usual*
I must not post too early.
Love it, Bongo!
-And being a bit of a 'cheezeball' myself, I love Barry's new CD "The Greatest Songs of the 60s", too! Maybe the New Zealand authorities should play track 13 - "What the World Needs Now is Love, Sweet Love" really loud for the rowdy teens.
Too funny! I think I remember hearing something like this somewhere else. Not only will they attrack the Drama Club but also the Fanilows! Poor Barry.
