Isla Fisher...as Myrtle..ONE OF THE WORST LITERARY CHARACTER.

Nothing says Scott & Zelda to me quite like Jack White and Beyonce.
I think I will just stick with the trailer.
Is the musical stage adaptation of Strictly Ballroom still happening?
Given how many years it has been supposedly in the works I highly doubt it though I'd still love to see that happen as well as the stage version of MOULIN ROUGE, which would make a glorious stage show if Luhrman himself directed it.
Myrtle is a terrible character, pity the woman who has to play her,
Fisher's an interesting choice so maybe she'll do something cool with the part. I wish Leighton Meester were playing Jordan.
Moulin Rouge has already been staged in Germany. There is a cast recording of the tour. Personally, I thought the visual style of the film was so strong, I can't imagine a stage version would work nearly as well.
I'm actually excited about Gatsby. Looks a lot better than Australia, which bored me to tears.
What hit Moulin Rouge song is Angel of Moulin Rouge?
Five more minutes of clips. Doesn't seem to getting any less stanky.

Ballroom has been put on hold at this stage, not sure if the stage production will ever see the light of day. Well the version based on the film that is!
Moulin Rouge would be great for a theatre that they can renovate to have the club atmosphere and a large set. Can we get back the Mark Hellinger?
Or give it to Vegas. Build a companion nightclub.
Not sure why anyone would make a Gatsby film in this day and age.
Not sure why anyone would write horrible music like yours
All of the line delivery seems kind of jilted and flat. I can't decide if that's a directorial choice or not. Of course it "looks" amazing, but I have to say I'm a little less excited after those clips.

I'm going to predict that, in spite of the gargantuan marketing campaign, this will underperform at the box office.
I still feel like this isn't set so much in the twenties as it is set in what someone thinks the twenties is like based on cultural osmosis.
I've been kind of sick of this movie for months now and it hasn't even been released.
Kad, I think that's only a problem if the film was trying to explore 1920s American society. I obviously haven't seen it, but nothing about Luhrman's style makes me think he's interested in creating an accurate portrayal of the time periods in which his films are set. MOULIN ROUGE isn't really about turn of the century Paris and it doesn't need to be, I feel the same way about this one. I'm excited about the film because I imagine Luhrman is using the novel as a vessel to create his crazy vision of the story rather than align with the critique of 1920s American society Fitzgerald was invested in.
Then why bother doing The Great Gatsby at all?

The Clips PJ posted seem to indicate there is some sort of a plot and that makes me hopeful.
Who needs plot when you have editing! Cut it like it's an action scene, even if it is just people sitting and talking.

Loved Moulin Rouge but have no plans to see this Gatsby. The trailers turned me off. Really liked the Mia Farrow version, her vacant performance, and the way it just plodded along. Loved Karen Black and Sam Waterston, too. Especially loved the quietness of the film. The remake looks to be a bit louder. I'll pass.
The Mia Farrow/Robert Redford version is atrocious. It's not even a good "bad" soap opera.

I feel the same way and I love DiCaprio, he's one of my favorite actors but this film strikes me as gaudy and overbearing.

I agree with this as well. Coppola wrote the screenplay, why didn't Paramount let him direct it as well. Why Jack Clayton?
Redford and Farrow have absolutely NO chemistry: zip, zilch, nada.
The saving grace of that version is Nelson Riddle's work on the score. I still have the soundtrack and listen to it often.
The film got bad reviews from both Variety, Hollywood Reporter.... There was talk that at one stage it was being shelved, hence the late change from November last year.
Yeah, early word is...not positive.
