I don't get why actors do this type of stuff. It's so unhealthy. If the film needed someone of a certain appearance, they should have hired an actor who already looked like that. He's hardly a box-office draw looking like this.
What did you do Jakey?

He kinda looks like Scotty from Foul Play in some of those pictures.

I bet when he gains it back he'll be more beefy. I'd like to see him all bearish.
It's very simple.
Radical diet = Oscar.
Now I can see why he dropped out of "Into the Woods."
He couldn't have played a prince while he was on that starvation diet.
For every Christian Bale losing a ****-ton of weight for The Fighter and getting an Oscar there is Christian Bale losing a ****-ton of weight for The Machinist and only having that haunt everybody else forever in jpegs.
Anne Hathaway, too.
Tom Hanks.
It's not new.
The Academy should create a new category for Least Actor in a Leading Role, etc.
Actors + weight loss or playing special needs = Oscar
Actresses + weight gain or looking ugly or getting super nude = Oscar
Jennifer Hudson put on weight when she won Most Actress in a Supporting Role for Dreamgirls.
Beyonce lost weight for Deena, but clearly not enough to be nominated for Least Actress. If it doesn't look painful, the Academy doesn't think you're trying hard enough.
Now Meryl Streep ... she gained 20 lbs. for The Bridges of Madison County, and she didn't win. She was nominated, though, but clearly if she had gained 30 pounds instead, she would have won.
Robert De Niro? Put on 30 lbs. for Raging Bull and won Most Actor.
Ben Kingsley? Lost 30 lbs. for Gandhi, and won Least Actor.
By the way, joking aside, there is no way Jake Gyllenhaal is just down 20 lbs. in that photo. He's dropped closer to 30 or even 40 lbs. It's not like he's 5'2". I have no idea what PR spin that is, but his weight loss is alarming. And 20 lbs. wouldn't do that.
I was just going to say the same thing.
WAY more than 20 lbs...
After witnessing Jake throw a temper tantrum, destroying private property for not getting his way, I have come to not give a rat's ass about him or his career. I can only imagine this diet has made him even more ridiculously entitled and bratty than usual.
I'm reminded of the punchline to an old joke with Dustin Hoffman and Laurence Olivier on the set of "Marathon Man" ...
"Why don't you just try acting?"
"After witnessing Jake throw a temper tantrum, destroying private property for not getting his way, I have come to not give a rat's ass about him or his career. I can only imagine this diet has made him even more ridiculously entitled and bratty than usual."
You shut the hell up.
It stings, I know. No one was more disappointed than me.
Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.
Now, they're also using a before photo of chubby Jake rather than Jake in his normally movie star state of fitness, so there probably is more than 20lbs difference between the photos. It's manipulation by his PR people and it's working.
