IMO, if Mandami wins, we will have the opportunity to observe the kind of political leader he is before he might be considered a candidate for POTUS. We did not have that opportunity with Trump and look how that turned out...
I also believe in the reasoning behind the requirement for natural born citizenry. It makes sense to me re: loyalty to a single nation.
If anything, I believe that the mistake of electing Trump has shown that the Qualifications for Presidency need to be stricter, and should require elements like (at a bare minimum):
- a minimum of 2 years experience as an elected official in a lower-level office
- a collegiate-level degree or minimum 2-year coursework in political science
- a clean criminal record with no felony convictions
As a former teacher, I was not only required to have completed a college degree with a satisfactory GPA, but also obtain certification status in every/any state in which I intended to to teach. The NCLB Act of 2001 additionally required that I show proof (on a yearly basis) of continuing education, as well as updating any endorsements listed on my license, else risk losing my license/certification.
The irony that we no longer have a US Department of Education because of a megalomaniac/failed businessman/convicted felon bozo is not lost on me. ...Not to mention that some requirements to obtain employment at McDonald's are stricter than those for the office of the presidency.
