First thing i thought was,uh....what was he doing in the Dominican Republic? About 2 weeks ago he was mocking Ted Kennedy's son (who went into rehab by the way) over his drug problem. This man is a hypocrite & he needs some of that arrogance knocked out of him! I know theres atleast one person on this board who will defend him til he's blue in the face. Lets see if he has the guts to comment on this topic. Drudge says that they have retracted the story & the drugs found were all legal. Well, lets just wait & see. El Rushbo will spin this as usual & tell his ditto heads how he(like always) is the victim here. My guess, he'll blame Bill Clinton for this.

I don't personally have health insurance, but I'm still reasonably certain that I could go to the 24 hour clinic and say, "Hey, I need some Viagra", and the doctor would write me a prescription. I find it highly doubtful (yet, surprisingly hot) that he would ask me to demonstrate any "erectile dysfunction". That being said, if Rush is toting around illegally obtained Viagra, especially through an airport, he's a bigger idiot than any of us imagined.

He's not going to go to jail, because the offense doesn't warrant it. And he wasn't caught with anything you could possibly get high on. I am not a fan of Mr. Limbaugh's (I think he's a loudmouthed jackass), but I hate when people jump to conclusions without knowing all the facts. Here is the story as reported on abcnews.com (from the AP wire service):

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., June 26, 2006 — Rush Limbaugh was detained for about three-and-a-half hours today at Palm Beach International Airport after authorities said they found a bottle of Viagra in his possession without a prescription.

The 55-year-old radio commentator's luggage was examined by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after his private plane landed at the airport around 2 p.m. from the Dominican Republic, said Paul Miller, spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

ICE officials found in Limbaugh's luggage a prescription bottle labeled as Viagra, a prescription drug that treats erectile disfunction, Miller said.

"The problem was that on the bottle itself was not his name, but the name of two Florida doctors," Miller said.

The matter was turned over to the sheriff's office, whose investigators interviewed Limbaugh. "He said he had the Viagra in his possession for his use and that he did obtain it from his doctors," Miller said.

Sheriff's investigators confiscated the drugs, and Limbaugh was released around 5:30 p.m. without being charged.

However, the sheriff's office plans to file a report with the state attorney's office.

"We believe there may be a second degree misdemeanor violation, which is possession of certain drugs without a prescription, because the bottle does not have his name on it," Miller said.

A doctor had prescribed the drug, but it was "labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh for privacy purposes," Roy Black, Limbaugh's attorney, said in a statement.

Last month, Limbaugh reached a deal with prosecutors who had accused the conservative talk-show host of illegally deceiving multiple doctors to receive overlapping pain pill prescriptions. Under the deal, a single charge commonly referred to as "doctor shopping" would be dismissed after 18 months if he complies with terms that include submitting to random drug tests and continuing treatment for his acknowledged addiction to painkillers.

Thanks, Erika. I'm no fan of Mr. Limbaugh's, but I did think it was was unlikely (and, unsurprisingly, not hot) that it would have been illegal.

Sadly, that does seem to be the point of publicizing this story. I always get so PO'd at the term "liberal media", but this does seem to be a case of that. I'd be more bothered by it if Rush himself weren't guilty of the same smear tactics that epithet implies.

Watch how this story develops--or gets squashed:

1) Its illegal to fill a prescription in someone else's name in Florida.

and

2) The first reports said that Viagra was only one of the drugs found, this has now somehow vanished from the news stories that are being reportedd...
