One thing is for sure not raising the debt ceiling and defaulting on our obligations will certainly raise the deficit. Unless of course, we simply become bankrupt.

Joe, i am going to respectfully bow out of this conversation. I respect your opinion,so im not going to go point by point. im sure there is a lot to like about it, but there is also lot to not like. there is no dooubt that it was rushed thru so it would get passed and senators voted for it without reading the whole bill and all the pork attached. and just like tolls and taxes, once its done, its done, there are never any turning backs. i read where the GW Bridge was only supposed to have tolls to pay for its cost. but that happened along time ago and its now like 12$.

Sue, how long SHOULD it take to write and pass a law then? This law took well over a year to go from bill to law. It was amended 160 times- more than any bill in congressional history. There was over 100 hours of debate on the floor of the house and senate.

Incidentally, the first president to propose universal health care was Theodore Roosevelt back in 1912- we've been debating this idea in one shape of another for over 100 years.

Well Sue again you are being obtuse- there was a period of more than 15 months when the bill was read, amended, discussed and debated. The base canard (french for LIE) that "They never read it" is downright goofy- they WROTE the bill. And to claim that this bill was too complex to be understood by the legislature is particularly silly- as I said it was chewed over for months in both houses. Conversely, the PATRIOT ACT was suggested, written, amended and signed in exactly 45 days.

In any case, congress passed it, the president signed it, the supreme court reviewed it- It's law. Don't try to delay it or Mikey will claim its been changed and is void.

Incidentally, when they need to, congress can really move. The day after Pearl Harbor, FDR addressed congress asking for a declaration war and they passed one later that day and had it on the president's desk to be signed before dinner. And, lo and behold, Japan did get nuked over it.

Yes Sue, that's what much of this has been about- only congress cam make a law. I can't imagine what I said to give you an impression I thought otherwise.

You are a student- you write papers, yes? Big ones- theses papers or term papers or what have you? And advisers will read and suggest changes? You add a paragraph on the role of Christian missionaries in aboriginal societies. You delete the sentence that calls them "Munchkin-like." Do you still know what your paper says? Or do you need to re-read the whole 58 pages to be able to say "I read it."

Really? Why can't government mandate health insurance? We mandate school. Kids have to attend school- for the good of society. It's bad for me if you can't read. Likewise it's bad for me if you have cholera.

And no, it's not 10,000 pages. It's funny- another objection that you claim is a major stumbling block to you supporting the law (and you WANT to, you REALLY want to) is a Republican talking point and a complete lie. I'd think a bright young woman with free access to the internet would research these things before making her mind up.

Several books I had to read for high school English classes.
My state's annual budget.
The list of lies told about President Obama in the 2008 election....

OK fine, lets say 1000 pages. thats still quite a read. its got nothing to do with republicans, they voted for it too. maybe it comes from being in a family that lived through a horrible tyranny, but i do not trust the Govt. Yes, USA is not USSR but then you read about the IRS targeting certain political groups that disagree with the President and its scary. "The best minds are not in government. If any were, business would hire them away."

Yes- because the "Tea Party" is an expressly political group- ineligible for 501 3-c "non-profit status. It would be like saying "those police targeted murderers in their investigations!"

Sue, you haven't googled the number of Republicans who voted for the ACA have you? While you are Googling, do a look-see on ACORN (the group, not the seed) and maybe Shirley Sherrod to get an idea why a person or a group might just give up rather than fight the lies of the massive right-wing media in this country once they have you in their sights.

Why don't you tell us all what the FBI did to MLK and NAACP and how it was like the IRS investigating political groups for abusing 501 3 C status when you are done with that.
