I think Michael Longoria looks more like Frankie Valli then JLY
Oh, I don't think so, either.
I hate that John has been sick lately. The boys were overbooked with appearances during the award season, he's had that sinus infection and then maybe he came back to the show a little too soon.
If he's not back in tonight, then I hope he's able to get some much-needed rest.

I keep thinking about John in that backstage on-camera appearance from Broadway.com. Of course, it was right after the Tony's when the guys were scheduled to within an inch of their lives with outside appearances.
Still, John looked pale, stressed and exhausted.
When I was watching that video I started to feel bad for him. He did look extremely tired/exhausted.
I've noticed that too! It also could be that since his vacations are shorter than the other cast members. I mean John doesn't get to go out in the sun that much i maybe wrong but it could be both.

Also, I'm beginning to think that the role of Frankie might me too demanding for just one person to do for any length of time.
I mean, you have twice as many songs for the lead to sing as you do in the average Broadway show.
I think John has done well to last this long before having problems.
Poor David Narona had problems after only a few weeks, not months.
I wouldn't be surprised if the role were to be double cast after JLY leaves.

Same here, maybe he should take another break if he was looking really bad.
Poor John! I really hope he's okay.
Just watched "Goodfellas" for the first time today - it was a great movie. Anyone else think Joe Pesci looks so much like Frankie Valli?

I think he could take a week or two vacation if he chose to like the other guys are. I bet there is something in their contracts about how many vacation days they have and John seems to prefer taking shorter vacations than the big chunk of time the other guys are taking.
He does not look so great though. Last time I saw him on August 15th he had lost like 10lbs atleast since I last saw him at the end of June. He says it is because he has changed his diet to try and battle the problems he's had but he doesn't seem to be getting better. Here's to hoping he realizes it is better to just take off a good chunk of time and come back healthy than try and come back too soon and not being completely up to par yet!
I hope he at least takes the weekend off, if not much longer. BTW, wicked mimi, thanks for the info. :)
Edited to add: I didn't realize that he had lost so much weight. I remember reading on his blog that he was proud to return to the show in "record time." I was thrilled he was back, but pushing yourself too hard only leads to burnout. I love that he seems to have a bit of an overachieving mentality, but not at the expense of his health.
Tennessee Twang, I think you're right about the double casting. We know how well JLY takes care of himself. But there's a limit to how much the body can take. This might be a stupid question, but are Dominic and Michael going to the same vocal coach as JLY, to keep their voices and stamina up too?
And, how long did the show play in La Jolla?

I'm sorry to hear that John isn't feeling well. Hopefully he'll be back in tip top shape. I wouldn't be surprised if they started double casting. It's a very demanding role, I myself was surprised at how many numbers there were when I got my OBC, even more when I saw how fast paced everything was when I actually saw the show.
A little OT (sorry!) but since Meryl mentioned The History Boys--I really wish I could see that. I love the trailer (in my head I keep seeing Dominic Cooper's smirk during "Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered").
Ahhhh the play was bloody brilliant! The movie looks almost similar to the actual play. How hot is Dominic Cooper? I met him and Samuel Barnett (also very cute) at the stage door and yeah. Wow. I really can't wait for that movie! I'm a sucker for good looking British boys *chuckles*
Sorry to thread jack... I had to post those haha
I am sorry to hear John isn't feeling well.
here are my thoughts, on the two day shows they should have john do one of the shows and have Dominic or Micheal go on for the next one, I dont know, but that much singing in those high notes can not be good for anyone.
Get well soon John you are in all of are prayers.
Dominic Cooper! *faints* And Sam! I used to see him everywhere when I was in NYC because Phantom's theatre is right next to the Broadhurst and he would always be hanging around. I love the History Boys! Glad you enjoyed it, Meryl.

Yeah, when I saw Dominic onstage... I literally swooned in my seat! I'd love to see those boys all the time LOL Were you able to catch the show while you were in the city Elle?
Don't think I'm weird, but I have this weird thing with the smell of the Majestic theatre. I passed by it today on my way to the Broadhurst and just got this nostalgic feeling haha
It seems like nowadays he has been doing only one show on the two-show days, at least on Wednesdays. I'm glad his contract allows that. But I agree, he probably needs an extended vacation like the other boys have taken or plan to.
The show moves really fast and he's onstage practically the entire time. Even if he's used to it, and it's intrinsically rewarding, I can't imagine how physically and emotionally taxing it can be.
Meryl! I responded to your post on the main board. I'm so glad you loved the History Boys! Your pictures are fantastic, as usual. :) mmmm Dominic! I know what you mean about British guys; must be the accents. Anyway, it's kinda funny that both "Boys" shows racked up at the Tonys this year (and both casts are amazing, wonderful, etc.)

It would be smart to have two people in the role but since they have atleast 3 people to cover the role I don't know if they will ever actually do that. The role is very taxing and minus intermission the only time John goes to his dressing room for a breather is during "Oh What A Night." That is two and a half hours of singing, dancing, and acting. It's really a marathon. He used to be able to handle the part but this sickness I think has just taken a lot out of him and he needs to really just stop trying to get back so fast and get healthy. I think if he gets back to normal he won't have a problem doing the 7 show week he is allowed.
Omigosh Meryl, those pictures are amazing! They certainly are very good-looking British boys. I really want to see the play, but I don't think I'll be able to...oh well, I guess I can settle for the pretty pictures haha. And Samuel, in that picture at least, reminds me of Anthony Rapp.
I'm sure we've all read this, but it seems appropriate to post again. From John's blog dated in July:
Yesterday JERSEY BOYS and THE HISTORY BOYS were able to see each other's shows. THE HISTORY BOYS had a special Sunday evening performance, so I was finally able to see it. Earlier in the day THE HISTORY BOYS' Russell Tovey, Samuel Barnett, and Tony-winner Richard Griffiths all saw our JERSEY BOYS matinee. Had fun chatting with Griffiths backstage afterward (neither of us have our Tony Awards back from the engraver, yet!). Congrats to everyone of THE HISTORY BOYS on an exemplary performance. Now I understand what all the fuss is about!
It's really cute that they saw each other's shows. Especially since JB is a very American story, while THB is unmistakably British--but they can appeal universally.

Alejandra, haha I was thinking the same exact thing about Jersey Boys and History Boys winning big at the Tonys!
Thanks Rachel =] If you can't watch the play, the movie will be just as good! It's the glasses on Sam that make me think Anthony Rapp. The boys looked so cute in their school boy uniform costumes hehee. Pretty pictures
Meryl, I did see it right before I left! I was front row aisle, and absolutely loved it! The boys were very sweet, too. Although Dominic is very cute, I must admit I am partial to Jamie Parker.

Awesome! Did you do student rush or full price? I bought an "obstructed view" ticket on Friday for the Saturday matinee. I think I was sold a student rush ticket because they only do St. R. Mon-Thurs. Jamie is also fantastic, his piano skills are amazing. I especially love the "Bewitched" number, Sam's got quite a lovely voice!

I would think he would have posted already since, if it is him, he's been a member for a while. He may have been reading this all along tho...
Do you even know that that is him? they way it is written is not like him.
