But nowadays, Hollywood producers are more likely to hire someone from a reality TV show who's never acted in his life to star in their movie or TV series before they'd hire a well-trained stage actor because the person from the reality show has a higher name recognition.
And that's also sad but true. The people with actual talent are getting passed over because they aren't well known to most people outside of the theatre world.
But if John got on Lost I'd have to start watching it again. :]

Yeah. If a show is critically acclaimed, it's usually the first show canceled. Reality TV and shows like American Idol are impacting Broadway too, and not for the better. NBC's new Grease show is good evidence of that. And it's so popular, easier, and much cheaper to produce that more shows of that genre just keep getting created. (Not to completely knock it, either; I watch The Amazing Race, Survivor and Big Brother, LOL.)
For some (many?) people, when I say "musicals" they still think of Cats or Phantom, Sound of Music, etc. Since I live in the South and don't travel much, the Tonys were the only chance I got to see what new shows were playing. But I can't say I knew who most people were or cared at all who won until a friend got me into Wicked. And now these days I grumble seeing no-talent pretty faces in roles, and say things like, "Norbert ...Raul...JLY...[insert theatre name here] has more talent in his pinky than anyone in this entire show." LOL.

I feel exactly the same. To steal a line from someone on another thread, "The average Broadway chorus boy (or girl) that the average TV viewer or movie goer wouldn't know from Adam, has more talent in his little finger than the entire casts of some TV shows and movies.
That's probably one of the reasons that Julia Roberts called people in the Broadway community "insanely talented."
Being emersed in only the culture of high-powered Hollywood deal-making where talent is frequently secondary or even tertiary, she probaly WAS awed at seeing such skill coming at her from all sides. And yes, I think it really did humble even a big old movie star like her.
Wow...I've been gone for two days and I feel like I've missed so much.
JLY's fan...I just read up on the fan mail thread and good for you for sticking it out and eventually have everyone apologize to you!! You'll learn who to talk to here and who to stay away from. It's sad that it's like that, but...oh well.
Back to all good things Jersey Boys...anyone thinking about going to Daniel's concert on Sept 22??

I'd like to go, but there's no way. Are you going, NPG?

I would love to go but my family and I are driving into the city that night and we wouldn't have to time to go there.
Yeah, I'm going. It's at 11:45 at night, so my boyfriend and I are going to see a show first, then head on over. I can't wait!!

Well all I start school on Thursady meaning I won't be able to go on here and post as much.

That sucks, Erin. But it'll be the same for me as soon as school starts.
and i will be all along with no one to talk to, that is one of the things about being homeschooled.
I guess it will give me more time to work on the fan sites

Being homeschooled sounds like fun, to a degree. But yes, you can always work on the fabulous fan sites.
You do a great of running them.

I'll be able to post when I get home depending on how much homework I get and there is always the weekends.
Tennesee--I *loved* that Julia Roberts acknowledged that theatre actors are "insanely talented." Too true. And even some of the better film/TV actors don't have the skill sets to be on Broadway, don't know how to project their voices, improvise, have stage fright or wouldn't have the stamina or discipline to do the same show 8 times a week.
Kathryn, I often work from home during the day and go to school at night. While I *try* to stay all focused and disciplined (as JLY would be), I can't resist checking out BWW during the day. It's an addiction, LOL. So, I'll be around.
Speaking of JLY, I got mail from him today! Yay! He sent me a sweet note on one of his cards, an autographed picture and playbill (I had asked for and/or and he sent both. :)) He's SO fast, I only sent my letter to him last Monday. You can tell how much he appreciates his fans.

NPG--I really wish I could go to one of Daniel's concerts, but I live too far away! Has anyone ever asked him if he would release a solo CD? That would be amazing. I'd love for a company like Sh-K Boom to produce it.

I want to send a letter to John but I don't know what to say. Then again I felt like that when I sent a letter to Christopher Fitzgerald when he was in Wicked and I end up geting my Williamstown program signed and a signed picture of him as Boq with a note on the back which was very sweet of him seeing how I just wanted my program signed.

I will admit to going on BWW while at school when I'm supposed to be doing research. Like Alejandra said, it's and addiction!
That was so nice of him, Alejandra. I was thinking of writing him soon and asking for both, but I wasn't sure if I should.

I went on to BWW a few times last year while I was at school but all my work was done and I had nothing to do. So I spent the rest of the class looking around at BWW.

I can't say that I was done with my work... But I have learned from my ways.
Has anyone ever asked him if he would release a solo CD?
I asked both him and Joey if they were ever going to release a CD, and they both said they would love to but are so busy, Daniel with JB and Joey with A Chorus Line. If anyone gets an opportunity to, go see Joey Dudding sing...he's amazing...

Ahhh I can't wait until A Chorus Line opens! My mom and I are uber excited. What part does Joey play in the show?
John is so freakin' amazing about his fan mail.
Tennessee, did your niece ever send him and Daniel gift certificates for chocolate?
