And..broadway.com has an article that says each nominated new musical will perfom 2 songs from their respective shows--a short one at the beginning and a full one later in the show. DRS is doing DR Number and of course, Great Big Stuff! Cannot wait!
I'm glad they're doing Dirty Rotten Number and GBS, instead of just one or the other! I'm also thrilled that Matt Morrison will perform part of Passegiata from The Light in the Piazza, but that's another story...LOL.
Broadway.com just updated its site, with pictures of Billy Crystal and Kelli O'Hara backstage with John, Norbert and Sherie. :)

Billy Crystal and Kelli O' Hara visit DRS
Kelli is amazingly pretty--I can't wait to see her finished dress.
Off to listen to Radio Playbill with John and Norbs, dear Norbs.
Drat-it was the interview I previously read, not the Radio Playbill from January. Ok, I'm tired..
Hi guys, I saw on the main board the feast of St. Norbert is June 6--anyone think people might be "honoring" him day earlier? LOL
Hehehe. wendy, good one! And I think he will be honored. :)
There has been a proliferation of Norbert topics on the main board this week. I think my favorite was: "Norbert for tick tick Boom?" b/c while I don't see him fitting the role of Jonathan, I would love to hear him sing songs from ttB. Come to think of it, I'd love to hear Sherie sing "Come to Your Senses" from ttB as well LOL.
Is the Stars in the Alley concert going on right now? It's almost noon.

Back from SitA and Piazza mat. Norbs and Sherie were no-shows today. No Sara, no Matt, no Raul. BUT Kelli did a beautiful job! I screamed "You go, girl!" when she was waiting for the music to start. I took pics of my favorite people who were there so if you wanna see some, send me your e-mail. I discovered I had more zoom than I thought so I got some good shots considering I was near the back.
Chrys! Duh, I'm excited! Gonna tape it and watch it over and over again. 4 days, AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!
BUMP
Norbert is *scheduled* to perform at Bway Under the Stars.
Here's an excerpt: (note the Norbert LEE Butz reference...) Oh, well, I hope after Sunday night no one will forget his name..
"Inside track: Remember what I said at the beginning? Remember Norbert Lee Butz. Tony voters are raving about the hugely talented Butz, saying that the actor, who plays a charming con man and small-time crook with irresistible flair, is giving one of those once-in-a-lifetime performances that people will be talking about from years to come. "
Amen to that!! Did anyone see Lithgow on Conan?--he was hilarious, and so was Conan.

hey, Ainmama! Welcome to the Norb thread. We're all *quite* smitten with him here.
I just read that Idina will present the first 9 Tonys on Sunday night. I guess that means she won't be presenting the Tony for Best Actor in a Musical. *sigh* I want her to present Norbert with a Tony!

I wonder about the kids...one of his daughters is pretty young, 5, I think, and given his award will be one of the last of the evening, 11pm is pretty late for a 5 year old.
Norbs mentioned in one interview his parents (Norbs Sr.) asked if they could attend...we'll see.
Does anyone get the TV guide channel? Joan and Melissa will be doing red carpet coverage beginning at 7pm, according to some threads I've read.

I get the TV Guide channel...I think.
People have met Norbert's kids before, but I've never seen good pictures of them (which is good). They're young, and he makes it sound like they don't care about any of this stuff LOL. We'll see pics of Michelle with Norbert on the red carpet, but I hope we'll get lots of pics of Norbert with other people, too.
The official Tony Web site is Webcasting the arrivals and pre-show, as well.

From the official Tony Awards site--interviews with the nominees, "in their own words." These interviews were done on May 11.
Sherie Rene Scott
Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Q: You've got a great number when you first come on stage.
Sherie Rene Scott: It's called "Here I Am," which is self explanatory. Every show has a "Here I Am" number and I guess they just wanted to title it that. I'm arriving on the French Riviera for the first time, this nice, innocent girl from the Midwest and I'm very excited to be there on a David Rockwell set [laughs].
Q: Did David Yazbek write that song for you?
Scott: There were several songs written before we joined the cast. I did the workshop, and I like to think it was written for me. We basically have amazing arrangements that were done to make it [so good]--there's lots of percussion and great dancing and stuff that was added. But "Here I Am" is a terrific song all on its own, without my help.
Norbert Leo Butz
Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Q: You have a great number, "Great Big Stuff." Was it written for you?
Norbert Leo Butz: No, no, no. That came purely out of the infantile imagination of David Yazbek. I'm just the lucky guy who gets to do it every night.
Q: The show teams you with Sherie Rene Scott. You've previously performed together in Rent and The Last Five Years. Can you describe that chemistry?
Butz: We have a real friendship offstage. We've sort of grown up in the city together. Now we're making kids together [laughs]. She's a dear, dear friend. There's none of that awkward getting-to-know-you phase. We can just dive right in and trust each other and have a great time. She's an amazing actor!
Joanna Gleason
Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Q: Welcome back to Broadway! Your part in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is not in the movie. Was it developed for you?
Joanna Gleason: They asked me to sign on before the role was really a role. I heard the song [composer David Yazbek] was developing. [The team] was Jack O'Brien and Jeffrey Lane and David Yazbek and Jerry Mitchell and I said, "Sure."
Q: You now have originated roles for Cy Coleman, Stephen Sondheim, and David Yazbek. Can you talk a little about that?
Gleason: There's nothing like being the one that originates a role. It's something I've always wanted in my career and now that I'm older and they're offering me revivals, I still want to be able to get in on something when I am the first one to do it. They're equally thrilling and always collaborative, Sondheim and Jeffrey Lane and Cy.
John Lithgow
Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Q: Do you have a favorite moment in the show?
John Lithgow: Well, there's a terrific number right near the end of the show called "Dirty Rotten Guys" that looks back and at what a great time we've had. It's tinged with melancholy--it's all over. There is also this feeling of "Thank God, we've gotten through another show." I mean this show is exhausting and that's where we blow all the gaskets.
Q: There seems to be a connection of con men and musicals with The Music Man and 110 in the Shade.
Lithgow: The thing is that con men are actors. They have real theatrical flair with changing identities and basically lying, and that's what actors do. We persuade people that what they're seeing is real.
Q: You and Mr. Butz come from such different professional backgrounds, but yet you have great chemistry. How did you build that?
Lithgow: There are a lot of elements. It's wonderfully written for a great comic duo and we actually adore each other. He's fantastic to work with. He really is talented. It's like playing hard tennis. No matter how you begin it, it comes right back to you.
