Your tix are for Thanksgiving week?! Grab those AA tix NOW! You'll have no prob getting rid of them the day of. Every show will be sold out, there will be cancellation lines so long at half the shows. You could probably even get more than you paid for but we won't go there. Buy those tix now!
I can't believe you saw him in all those roles! I'd do anything to see Norbert as the Emcee. Details, please!
You know, I was absolutely LIVID when I saw his name on the slip in the playbill.
It was my 2nd time seeing Rent and the first time I saw it, Anthony Rapp was out so I really wanted to see him and I got Norbert.
Man, I wasn't disappointed. He was phenominal. Gilles Chiasson was the first understudy so I think he only went on a hand full of times as Mark.
He had pinkish hair as Mark when he went on.
As the Emcee, he was phenominal as well. (Just look at my avatar)
Well, I have a pair of Wicked tickets for the Wednesday before Thanksgiving matinee that I am selling for face value.
Wow patronus that is amazing that you saw Norbert in all those roles, that is simply awesome.
I have been on both extreme sides of the theatre (although both times on the front row ) and the sight lines were terrific, nothing cut off at all. I think your seats should be fine, although those front-center seats you could have had are my absolute favorites, you can see everything and this show is great for sitting very close, because both Norbert and John put so much detail in their facial expressions.
Tom Gallantch is the understudy for John and was the standby for a long time, I would have loved to see him, much like Laura Marie Ducncan I think just being a part of the company every night would have given him better energy. Dennis Parlato has been on the national tour of something for awhile.
Thes, maybe you can grab tickets now?
Oh and in addition to the peace sign in the box, which is still totally awesome, I figured many of you would want to know... it was a three quarter moon night
There were about 30 people for the lottery, and the lotto guy actually chatted with me again, it was fun, he wants to know what I think of the new seats next time, doesn't seem happy with the change.
Also an usher taking me to the seat recognized me and said "Haven't you seen this show enough times already?" I mean it was #9 but it had been three months
Thanks for the seat update.
Yeah, I feel very fortunate to have seen Norbert in so much - especially before he was a Broadway star.
I am not a "write the theatre" kind of guy, bu I am giving serious though to writing a letter to Norbert c/o the theatre to ask him if he plans for missing that show/week that show since it's the week of Thanksgiving. Do you think he'd actually respond?
I understand the concept of the standby, but if Tom Gallantch is the understudy and had done the role before, why wouldn't he have gone on?
And Petronus..thanks for that Rent-bit, I was wondering how you first discovered Norbs, by accident, it appear Ironic to think you were furious and now you follow his career. I think he's terrific, too. Did you see him in "Thou Shalt Not?"

Its standby then understudy, because they don't have to actually take the standby out of the ensemble to play the part.
ETA: from our own BWW FAQ
The STANDBY is the first to cover the role when the main performer is out. The standby doesn't perform every night in the ensemble. They're only assigned to the role they're performing. They are required to stay within a close proximity of the theatre, in case of emergencies. Standbys are paid their weekly dues as well as "extra" for performances, but obviously, not as much as the main performer.
If the standby isn't able to make it, the UNDERSTUDY (who normally performs in the ensemble) covers the role.
The SWING covers the UNDERSTUDY's role while they're covering the main role. A swing is a sort of understudy for the all the members of the ensemble. They have to know all of the "tracks" in the ensemble (separated by gender -- there are usually separate male and female swings) and will go on when an individual chorus member is out for whatever reason.
Just an update - I found a pair of Orchestra AA tickets for DRS and bought them. I'll now be attending a performance of DRS from Front Row Center on my first night in the city.
As Broadway Betty pointed out earlier to me, I'll now be seeing the 3/4 moon from up close an personal. However, I've already seen a full moon complete with swastika. Top that!
haha so true Betty, I guess Norbs feels that connection to us.
Can't beat the swastica moon, but I can say Norb doesn't always show the 3/4 moon in DRS its for "special" occasions.
Your trip sounds great Patronus!
I just assumed you guys were 40-ish b/c you're married and for some reason I though you had kids but I guess I'm wrong. lol Ourtime is the one who is married with kids. I guess we're all 20 something. Now, the question is where do I find a 20 something guy who will marry me who loves the theatre?!
Can't answer that, but I can tell you that you aren't likely to find him staring at Norbert's ass like smartpenguin and I.
We plan to have kids, but probably about 10 years from now and by adoption.
I do sponser and absolutely adorable child in Guatemala but I none of my own yet.
