re: Official Oscar Thread

Awards Shows have been trending down in the ratings all season. I am certain that this will be lower than the estimates. And I'm fairly certain that there will be drop-off in the delivery across the measurable half-hours.

Well, regardless of whether he wins or loses awards, I hope this doesn't represent his last venture into period films. I would really love for him to direct Ragtime or Bonfire of the Vanities as television miniseries (gotta keep getting the word out, maybe someone will listen).

I think that what really has people drawn to Million Dollar Baby is the screenplay. The Aviator? Is a masterpiece of bringing a bygone era to life and for that I would've voted Scorsese. Plus, he's so open about his love for film (even preservation) that I can't help but admire him.

re: Official Oscar Thread

hell no. his sex appeal is lost on me. they wanted sexy and Gerard gave them that no doubt...

re: Official Oscar Thread

Phantom needed a different Phantom, a different Christine, a different director and a different haipiece (or none) for Raoul. It would have been loads better.

re: Official Oscar Thread

Matt, I'm with ya on that one. He should win for a really good movie, not because people feel sorry for him.

Yes, and everyone leave Barbra alone! She was adorable.

I'm Jewish. I have to love Barbra. It's in my blood and there's no getting it out.

I didn't think the glasses bit was self centered at all. I thought it was honest and sweet. My gosh, anything the woman does, someone will find something to complain about.

I'm Jewish too and proud of my love for Barbra! re: Official Oscar Thread

I'm so glad she was the last presenter. It's an honor which she deserves. Plus, it was a great end to a pretty dull show.

Some of us thought The Aviator was really good. No pity vote here.

re: Official Oscar Thread

I just don't think Scorcese is very well liked by his peers. Probably a lot of jealousy, since he was so successful so early in his career. But on the other hand, they just drool all over themselves for Clint. I still don't get it. IMO Clint makes average to good movies. Million Dollar Baby just didn't do it for me. I actually liked Mystic River more.

re: Official Oscar Thread

When was the last time the Oscars finished this early? I can't believe it was over before midnight.

re: Official Oscar Thread

Out of all the Scorsese's films, the only one I liked a little bit was GANGS OF NEW YORK. I'm not surprised THE AVIATOR and Scorsese lost - they didn't deserve it.

re: Official Oscar Thread

What this show needed was a drunk Anna Nicole or a stoned Kim Basinger or a political Richard Gere. Something spontaneous was needed.

re: Official Oscar Thread

Yeah, it did end fairly early... Maybe it was because of all the 'putting nominees on stage and in aisles' bit (which I hated with a passion). Also, there were no really long speeches, except for maybe the end.

re: Official Oscar Thread

Besides Clint Eastwood winning Director, the most cringe-worthy moment of the night for me was Robin Williams going on and on with his gay jokes...

Did he forget that Chris Rock was the host tonight?

Morgan Spurlock losing was also a surprise. Of course, I don't think Super-Size Me is all that. I just think Spurlock is incredibly hot in it, especially when he's wearing the speedo for the last weigh-in.

re: Official Oscar Thread

You're right Margo. It was boring as hell, but at least they kept it moving along. Honestly though, and I know I say it almost every year, but it had to be one of the dullest and most poorly produced Oscars in recent memory.

And did you see how they played with my emotions when they announed that CATHERINE ZETA JONES was going to help give an award and it just ended up being a joke? My happiness grew and then like a candle in the wind.......it was gone.
