I watched it for the first time last night, and I thought it was well-done, but I wasn't really enagaged. I'll watch a couple more eps online before I decide whether or not I like it, I guess. =)

Of course, the fact Sting was on the show was the whole reason I finally tuned in. :-P

I have a ratings question...

It doesn't factor in all the people DVR recording it does it? Because I know a LOT of people who do because they have to wake up early in the morning. Which really sucks for Studio 60 since I love the show.

"I just don't get it."

Currently, audiences aren't into dramas about privileged Hollywood types. If the dialogue were better, it might have a chance. But the dialogue isn't interesting and neither are the characters. The audience has no reason to care about any of these characters. Compare it with "Ugly Betty" where the audience has the opportunity to root for the underdog.

It's really bizarre that no one is watching this great show.. I haven't enjoyed a show this much in a long time.

During this weeks episode I kept hoping that the "Nations" going to HBO because they deserve it plotline was "buttering up" HBO in the even that Studio 60 gets cancelled.

But the dialogue isn't interesting and neither are the characters.

I have to disagree. I think this is some of the best dialogue I have heard. So witty. I love this show so much already!

The show-within-show segments stink. They aren't funny at all.

that says it all, papalovesmambo.

truly one of the most head-scratching moments of the season.

it's a show i like, not love, and although the cast is a strong one, i don't think anyone really cares about the characters, and the situations aren't relatable to most of the country.

***seriously look away now***

***close the thread***

see, i thought that was laugh out loud funny. funnier even than the idea that everyone was confident that she would make it work.

i care about the characters.

i'm not sure i'm so hip to the romance between matt and harriet. it just doesn't feel quite right somehow. but that's intentional to some extent i think based on their differences as people. but being attracted to talent is easy to understand.

i so want danny to bang jordan (and i was so glad to see her get the show from the kid even if in real life i'd rather it go to hbo).

i want ricky and ron to be tortured at least once an episode.

i think we're still meeting these people and getting to know them. sorkin sometimes tends to hand a lot to guest stars which is a good and bad thing.

all in all i really enjoy the show because i just f*cking love listening to aaron's dialogue. it crackles and it's a live and it's never boring. it may be silly sometimes, but it's never boring.

Agreed. I haven't liked those yet, but that's not what I was referring to.

Regarding the "roar" thing, the point was that it wasn't funny, but that she would make it funny because she was so good.

Yeah, I think they should just cut most of the show within a show segments. They aren't funny, but then again, I would watch any of them over the sketches I have seen on SNL of late. 20 minutes of falling water bottles, anyone?

The show within the show brings Studio 60 down. We don't need to see how unfunny these talented people are.

"The bear said ROARRRR" is exactly the kind of joke Tina Fey used to do on Weekend Update.

I watched "30 Rock" last night, anbd noticed that they didn't show ANY of the show-within-the-show - which may be a smart thing. Do we think Jane Krakowski is a sketch comedy genius?

thanks ashley for opening my eyes to that intricacy of the script. without your insight i might have wandered blindly for years thinking that line was funny. oh wait, i still do. which was why i wrote what i did the way i did. i think the way they are using the show within the show is smart. they use a lot of rehearsal stuff so if it sucks they can cut it and you see how smart they are to know it's not funny. if it's kinda funny, they can say they'll polish it up and but we'll never see the result. the stuf i've seen hasn't been fall on the floor knock my socks off write home to my ex girlfriend hilarious, but i didn't expect them to be. sure some are humorous and some are not, gee, just like a sketch comedy show.

Sorkin has a prodigious gift for writing witty, literate, dramatic dialogue that can break the tension in a scene. But that's not the same as writing sketch comedy, and his show's attempts to do so have been so painfully dull, they call into question the oft-praised talents of Sorkin's alter ego, Matt. Tell us the idea for the sketch, but don't actually produce one.

This is the point I agree with. They really aren't that funny.

i agree that they don't need to be funny. the idea can sound funny, but it is a drama not a comedy despite someone earlier saying that 30 rock was funnier than S6OTSS.

umm, that's like saying that ER is not as funny as scrubs. (ER actually is funnier but for wholly different reasons...)
