Well, she's going vegan for 21 days. Everyone I know who has gone vegan has gotten sick. And those that don't get sick look like they are.
Will Oprah get sick? Will she admit it if she does? Will she incur the wrath of thousands of pale, sunken-eyed, farting hippies?
Stay tuned!

I went raw vegan for about that time. I dropped 20 lbs, but man did it ever suck.
Yuck. The only person I know who is vegan can hardly eat anything, let alone GOOD things!
Knowing Oprah's history with weight issues, I think she'll return eventually to her old eating habits.
Living in the NW - crunchy granola capital of the U.S. - I have several vegan friends, and they are all quite healthy. The thing is to be careful and responsible about what one eats.
And they all agree on one thing: the hardest thing to give up was cheese.
For as smart as she seems to be, you would think she would catch on to the fact that "diets" don't work.
Yo-yo much?
Oprah is full of crap. she is doing it to lose weight and get attention. She will lose 20 pounds come out to rapturous applause, seel 20 billion books for the author and then go to Georgia with Gale and throw down and never mention a word as the pounds creep on. Oprah has no identity but is a patchwork quilt of a soul who hops on whatever fad she finds or whatever whack job bends her ear. She is so gullible as is her audience. They all have ADD and buy whatever she says. If she actually practiced what was in the Tolle book that she just pimped out she would shudder at her materialism and would take care of herself 365 days a year, not just do whack ass diets.

I was a vegan for quite a while and had/have no regrets, and I don't fit any of the stereotypes mentioned above (I'm like 80% vegan now). despite this, I'm not sure what Oprah's trying to accomplish if she's only doing it as a "limited engagement." Day 22 should be interesting, he he.
"This 21-day cleanse gives me a chance to think about [eating] differently and see what my attachments are to certain kinds of foods – and what I'm willing to do to change," she wrote on Sunday (day one). "Don't know if I'm going to feel better or worse, but I'm willing to try to see if my body at least feels differently."
So, in 21 days she is supposed to learn what she couldn't in her 40 years of "dieting"?
AMEN, SUELEEN!
Supposedly, yo-yo ing is more harmful to the heart than staying at one weight.
I don't dispute the fact that a vegan lifestyle works for many people. Obviously, it takes a special individual to be committed to and maintain such a way of life. I just sincerely doubt that Oprah is one such person.

Girlfriend needs to slim down so she can help Obama campaign. You know those flyover states serve only sugar, fat, salt and starch.
What does god think of vegan diets?
"sugar, fat, salt and starch"
ARE VEGAN.
And those "flyover" states are your base!
As far as God goes, many of the world's religions have fastings and dietary restrictions.

I encounter a good number of vegans professionally and have a few friends who are vegan ... most are still on the heavy side. You know Oprah's still going to eat the WHOLE vegan-made sweet potato pie in one sitting.
Here's some dieting advice:

Yeah, "vegan" doesn't mean you're going to be skinny and have "sunken in" features as stated above.
I eat partially vegan, and have many friends who are vegan and are completely healthy.
I think making a choice to be vegan or eat healthier is criticized by the majority because it's "different" and means that person is actually putting THOUGHT into what goes into their body. It's a great choice.
Being vegan for 21 days? Definitely wouldn't recommend that. It's definitely YO-YO for O-O.
Being vegan is not a "fad diet;" a fad diet is one that is quite popular for some time and then fizzles once it's effectiveness fails to materialize...like eating nothing but grapefruit or ping-pong-ing your way to slimness.
Vegan simply means she won't eat any animal products for 21 days--just to see what it's like.
That's all...and c'mon Betty, you REALLY think she's doing this for the money?
I actually think some of these detox initiatives are good. A lot of people haven't a clue what they are putting in their bodies or where it comes from or what the effects are. Often times people put-up with things like low energy, insomnia, constipation, bloating etc, and its a great way to weed out the bad. I don't think it is a healthy approach to losing weight. I'm not sure thats what she is doing here.
I don't think it's a weight thing either...MAYBE she's just genuinely curious.
I think Oprah has a loving heart but she is a total shill. I think she knows how much power she has uses it to hawk people and things she likes. I dont think she stops to think about her impact alot. I dont think she makes money necessarily, but she is very influential. I just dont give much heed to her stunts because she has no consistency.

SOMMS, you win.
I guess you could say I eat partially vegan as well, and I'm far from skinny. Now I definitely have my reservations about Oprah in general, but I think that what she's doing can be beneficial -- she's Oprah, people listen to her. If she can get more people to simply think about what they put into their bodies on a regular basis, she'll have done some good.
You are ALL over the place with that last post, Betty.
She knows how much power she has but she doesn't stop to think about her impact alot?
Nobody's really making any money off her trying veganism. Except maybe the soy lobby.
Well, this might sound strange, but the healthier the diet is, the more unhealthy it is for me. I have lots of allergies to natural foods. I do much better with processed foods.
Other allergic people might understand what I'm saying, but most people won't believe it.
