Why am I getting this movie mixed up with The Fourth Kind?

Saw it yesterday and had fun, but I did not find it anywhere near as creepy or scary as Blair Witch or Cloverfield. The most fun was listening to the audience reactions which included one girl I thought was going to pass out from hyperventilation (not that I think hyperventilating is fun). Some people are just more prone to anxiety and fear than others for a variety of reasons. I have a friend who cannot tolerate any type of horror film whatsoever. Watcher in the Woods is too scary for her.

***MAJOR SPOILER***

What really ruined the suspense for me was the unrelenting douchiness of the boyfriend and the repetitive complacency of the girlfriend. I really didn't see any evidence that the girlfriend had the sort of personality to simply put up with her boyfriend's behavior time and again, especially if she truly feared for their lives. It compromised the whole set-up where the fear should be in that the situation is inescapable. When they both just allowed things to continue and exacerbate the problem, I could no longer suspend disbelief and the reality effect was lost on me.

Terrible script. Very uneven. Had so much potential. Fails.

I'm not reading this thread b/c I'm waiting for the dvd, but I thought I'd mention that it's going to beat Saw VI for the number one spot at the box office this weekend.

I laughed a lot throughout the movie because the two of them kind of reminded me of Jim & Pam from "The Office". So the entire movie I was watching Jim & Pam get haunted. And yeah, I was kind of hoping Dwight would pop out at the end and scare them.

I saw it last night and found it suspenseful, not scary.

Okay, so I have not seen this movie, but a friend of mine saw it and it scared her to death. On friday night, she called me to hang with her because all her roommates left for the weekend and she was by herself. This girl was so scared and I stayed with her for 2 and a half hours. Before I left, she made sure all the lights were on and the windows/doors were locked. I didn't leave till about 12:30 AM. Then, saturday night, she called me again to keep her company but I wasn't close by, so she had to stay by herself. Oh, and Thursday night, she had some other person spend the night with her because she was so scared. Ha!

Now, I really want to see it!

I thought as a horror movie it was very unsettling and excellent.

Im in the media business and saw a screener copy the other day. I believe that it has a different ending to the theatrical ending.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjtgUvKn5dY

The above is the theatrical ending I believe.

The screener copy I watched saw Katie get out of bed and go downstairs. Micah eventually follows, shortly after, he screams and there is a thud! Katie then comes upstairs and sits down, rocking back and forth against the bed for a number of hours! Then, a visitor calls at the house and by all accounts, finds Micah dead. The police then arrive and search the house, they climb the stairs and confront a now stading Katie at the entrance to the bedroom, with her covered in blood and still holding the knife. She's asked to drop the knife, she ignores the command. The police open fire and she falls to the ground, the polive then hear a thud too.
The credits roll shortly after that.

Now, having seen both endings, its hard to choose, but I believe Steven Spielberg recommended the new theatrical ending, and I think it just scrapes it being better than than the original version.

As an aside, we went to see Saw VI on Friday. I lasted 5 minutes before I just couldnt handle the gore and screaming. I love the Saw movies, but this one was a bit much to watch in the theater, I felt a little faint lol. So we left and caught Law Abiding Citizen instead. Which I might add is a very good film indeed. Very gripping and in several points about as horrific as a movie can get!!

Say what you will, these folks are making a mint.

And the actress has signed with a high profile agency. May lead to something, maybe not - but these are the times we live in.

Just got back from seeing it. I loved it. A terrific low-budget film that manages to terrify the audience without CGI effects and blood and gore. It was great how tension built throughout the entire movie all the way up to the last scene where you could almost hear everyone's heart pounding. This is definitely a film that should be seen in the theater with other people. The last 5 minutes had everybody in our theater yelling and screaming. I don't think it would have worked as well on a smaller screen.

The writer/director sold the rights for distribution for $350,000. Supposedly, they're going to cut him a break and let him in on some of these millions. I really would be curious to see who exactly ends up with all this dough - which will undoubtedly be in the hundreds of millions when all is said and done (factoring in DVD sales and all that rot.)

I am NOT a horror movie fan, as I can be scared by my own shadow most times. But I saw this last night and it was pathetic. I never jumped or got freaked. I laughed more than anything. Everyone else in the theater pretty much did the same thing.

FOURTH KIND looks like it might be more interesting than PARANORMAL ACTIVITY (although the fact that we're asked to buy the idea of Milla Jovovich playing a doctor of ANYTHING is a bit of a stretch).

I thought it was creepy enough but not terrifying in the least. My friend however, thought it was one of the scariest movies she's ever seen so it was very fun to watch it with someone who was so so scared. Did any of you manage to see the alternate ending before Paramount took them all down? I didn't get to!
