I want to see this so bad. The local movie critic hated it which usually means I'll love it.

Go see this film if you truly love horror films or if you want a serious scare.

I left the theater shaking and crying. I have never had a horror film affect me in this way. Oren Peli has crafted a BRILLIANT horror film. He builds suspense perfectly, slowly taking us into Hell, and then unleashes something truly horrifying in the final moments. I won't be able to get the final minute out of my mind.

It shouldn't even be compared to "Blair Witch" other than its use of handheld camera. "Blair Witch" never really built up enough of a story or let us get to know and care about its characters, while "Paranormal Activity" makes you care for Katie and Micah so that their plight is all the more tragic and frightening. Both actors are excellent, never letting you know that they're acting. With the combination of their genuine fear of the ever-worsening situation and the realism of the handheld, the movie almost feels TOO real and puts the fear in your own home.

I cannot stress enough how PERFECT this movie is in the horror genre. See it immediately. Make sure you see it in a theater with a ton of people because it is truly a moviegoing experience. And definitely don't see it alone.

If you want to be scared out of your mind AND see a good movie, see it.

That's all I'm gonna say. Don't read synopsises, don't watch the trailer if you can help it, just see it.

I don't know why, but I didn't find the movie to be THAT scary. Maybe it was all the buzz, but I thought I was going to be scared out of my mind. I just kept thinking during the movie that it was creepy, and surely terrifying if I were to be one of the characters, but it wasn't as terrifying sitting in my seat. There was only one moment in the movie that I pretty much gasped and my hand was on my mouth. I was more scared watching "Orphan" than watching this one.

But, while I wasn't that scared, I do have to say the movie was shot terrifically and the acting was fantastic by Micah and Katie (they use their real names in the movie). The film really made it feel like you were watching this couple's home videos and some people were leaving the theater actually believing this happened. I may try and give it another shot, though if I wasn't scared the first time, I doubt I'm going to be scared the second. I'd like to see it in a large, full auditorium as the one I was at was only half full, which was odd for a Friday night in NYC on the first semi-wide weekend.

I've been reading people's comments about this movie and those who thought it wasn't scary and I don't know what most people are expecting from horror movies these days. This movie was scary because it was so real and so suggestive. The scares and horror comes from what you can't see and what you can't control in real life. And this film captures it perfectly. It was so cliched but it was so perfectly executed that you are still actually scared by it. Once again, it's the unknown that scares you.

I was talking to a friend and they said one of their friends felt this movie was predictable and I'm going to have to call BS on that. This movie isn't predictable at all. I think it makes you THINK you know what's going to happen but you never truly know. And the ending to me was not predictable. Without ruining it for anyone, in the last minute you don't really know who or what is going and/or coming. There are several options, but to predict who it is means to make a random guess. I was certainly expecting one thing but what actually happened I did not see coming and that is what scared the crap out of me!

And a side note, I LOVED that this movie was filmed and took place here in San Diego! WOOO HOO!

I had a hard time sleeping after seeing this movie. The person I went with said he didn't think the movie was scary. He had a hard time suspending disbelief. However, he texted me this morning saying he realized how scary the movie was the moment he got home and was lying in his bed.

A truly disturbing, creepy film. The suspense slowly builds until it is unbearable. The ending is a jolt you won't soon forget. One of the scariest films in years.

One of the creepiest movies I've ever seen. While I was watching it tho, I wasn't terrified exactly. However, it's one of those movies that stays with you for days. I didn't find it predictable in the least. This movie must be checked out!

My brother saw it last night and when I talked to him this morning he made me swear I'll never see it because it was so scary. lol he loves horror movies but this scared the pants off him, and he knows that I get scared at, say, "Jurassic Park" haha so I'll most likely be skipping it but reading everyone's comments on this thread makes me really want to see it! Except I know I wouldn't sleep for like 3 months if I did. lol

jessica0414 I really wanted my younger sister to go with me but she's terrified of ghost/demonic possession movies/topics. After seeing it, I told her she probably shouldn't see this one. We were raised to believe that God or Jesus triumphs over the Devil and his demons all the time. They never talked to us about what happens when the demon wins! LOL I think this is why these topis scare my sister so much.

I'm seeing this movie in two hours time. I am very nervous, as I do not do well with scary movies. Jeez, I'm afraid of Jaws.

I think I'm going on Thursday. I've seen a plethora of horror movies, and not once have any of them scared me. Let's see if this one does. Not likely, but it's always fun to laugh at other people in the theater who get freaked out. re: PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: the film

I saw it today. Scary wouldn't be the word I'd use to describe it...creepy, maybe. It didn't affect me or the friend I went with too deeply.

SPOILER

The demonic possession angle definitely added an extra level of creepy.

This movie looks interesting. Hope it lives up to the hype, unlike some Zombie movie I just saw starring Woody Harrelson. Not mentioning any names, though.

Overall, I thought it was very well-acted and well-made, but I wasn't scared. Not for a second. I didn't jump, gasp, anything. I have a pretty high threshold for that kind of thing, but the hype had me believing it was really terrifying, and it just wasn't (to me). I left going, "that was it?" It's a good movie, definitely, but one of the scariest ever like they're saying? I can't wrap my head around that. I must be an anomaly, because everyone was terrified walking out of my theater (it was sold out). The guy next to me peed his pants. I just don't get it.

And if you watch it, make sure the theater is not full of annoying teenagers. They wrecked the experience for me.

if you've never once been scared at a scary movie... what made you think you'd be scared at this one? because everybody else was scared at this one? i honestly think people out there make up their own definition of a scary or horror movie

I went to this one not knowing a thing about the internet buzz, only that there was some.

I want my $12.50 back. Now.

You have got to be effin' kidding me! It's EXACTLY like BLAIR WITCH and OPEN WATER: An elaborate stunt that will not at all hold up to repeat viewings. Does anyone really believe that the filmmakers have any talent? The actors?

Half the audience I saw it with squealed and oohed as if they could never have seen the predictable and repetitive freak outs coming, the other half was given to huffy exhausted sighs. One guy was even asleep.

People are crying at this movie???? From what, fer Chrissakes?

See at your own risk.

I went into this movie expecting another crappy horror movie, but I was totally into it the whole time. It was SO character driven and you were on the edge of your seat the whole entire time... and the ending was epic. The reactions from the audience were priceless and it helped to make the movie even more exciting than it already was. I would recommend it in a heartbeat.
