Doubt it, PJ.
But even that can't diminish the magnitude of this moment.

It's nice that Obama is waffling on about the 'important step toward ensuring teachers stay in the classroom' on Twitter (posted 34 minutes ago) but is yet to comment on something of this magnitude.
Priorities and all.

Yesterday I received an invitation to the wedding of two (gay) friends in DC who have been waiting a very long time to make this legal and beautiful commitment to eachother.
Today, this historic decision.
My heart overflows.

Here's the statement but it's from the White House, not in the president's first-person voice:
"The President has spoken out in opposition to Proposition 8 because it is divisive and discriminatory. He will continue to promote equality for LGBT Americans."

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
For ALL.
This is what American justice is all about.
I celebrate today's big step forward.

From Rick Jacobs, Courage Campaign:
"This ruling is an historic milestone for millions of loving families, for all who have fought to realize the dream of equality under the law, and for our nation as a whole. While today concludes the first step in a legal process that could take up to two years, Judge Walker's ruling is a landmark victory in America's centuries long war against discrimination, and the result of months of extraordinary work by the American Foundation for Equal Rights, Attorneys David Boies and Ted Olson, and courageous plaintiffs Kris Perry, Sandy Stier, Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo."

What a wonderful day!! I as babysitting when I heard the news, got a bit teary eyed. the 8 year old asked me what was wrong, and I told him it was a happy day. I explained to him and the 5 year old what was happening and the three of us snuggled on the couch and watched the news together. My heart warmed when the 5 year old continued to ask why people wouldn't want two guys or two girls to get married "if theyre in love". He didn't get it. Gives me so much hope for the future.
What a wonderful day, great momentum. Great unity. I'm excited for the fight ahead!!!!!

Is this a dream? Too good to be true?
On a lighter note...
I must set my tivo to catch The View tomorrow. And I HATE The View. Somehow I have a feeling this will be a "must see" with Sheri and Lizzie trying to keep their cool.

Posted: 8/4/10 at 9:05pmWell it's nice to see at least people here aren't congratulating California for this because my entire FB news feed was people congratulating California for overturning Prop 8 cause California didn't do ****. A Judge overturned Prop 8, California still passed the damn constitutional ban. That shame is still with every person voted for it.

I don't know....I have hope that if Ted Olson and and David Boies argue the case they have a fighting chance. The two of them have such a rational, clear headed argument that is rooted in fact. Not just emotion. I have hope, I really do.
EDIT: Boies and Olson seem to think they can win it in front of this court because of the message that them working together sends. "its not a political issue, its a civil rights issue....weve got to stop thinking about equality in terms of conservative or liberal.....our brothers and our sisters are entitled to equal places in our society, that should be a conservative value. it is also a liberal value. it is not something that should split us."

The thought is that it will be 4 and 4 with Kennedy as the swing vote. Kennedy is thought to be quite possibly swayed to vote our way.
The question is whether or not the Court feels that now is the time. Thankfully now will be in a couple of years, so there's time to allow the country to move that much more to our side on the issue.
Hopefully, this current stay won't last and marriages will begin again in CA. That helps. Hopefully more states will vote to allow marriage. That helps. Growing polling numbers will also help.

This reaction from NOM pretty much encompasses everything I hate about the right wing: the casual disregard for facts, the contempt for anyone who disagrees with you, the repeated invoking of the "Slippery slope" (in this case, the statement that somehow this court case will require "children will be re-educated using their own tax dollars to disrespect their parents' views and values") and the absolute inability to avoid personal attacks.
Judge Walker's bias will be overruled
